‘Little Brother’ Starring J.K. Simmons Lands September Release From Gravitas Ventures (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned movie buff who’s seen more films than I care to count, I must say that “Little Brother” piques my interest significantly. The cast alone is a testament to the film’s potential greatness, with established talents like J.K. Simmons and Polly Draper joining rising stars Daniel Diemer and Phillip Ettinger.

Gravitas Ventures has secured the distribution rights in the U.S. and Canada for the first feature film of Sheridan O’Donnell titled “Little Brother.” This movie features Daniel Diemer (“Under the Bridge”), Phillip Ettinger (“First Reformed”), Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons (“Whiplash”), and Polly Draper (“Thirtysomething”). The film is set to hit theaters in September 2024.

The story “Little Brother” commences following Pete’s (Ettinger) suicide attempt, prompting his domineering father Warren (Simmons) to enlist Jake (Diemer), his little brother, on a road trip from Albuquerque to Seattle for a family intervention. However, the siblings aren’t exactly compatible; they’re more like fire and gasoline. With only a faulty van as their shelter, they embark on a 1,400-mile journey across the American West, where there’s no escape from each other. During this trip, they grapple with their past and endeavor to create a stronger relationship.

The movie that won the Audience Award at the 2023 Atlanta Film Festival is a deeply personal project for its writer-director, O’Donnell. His friend’s suicide partly inspired him, and he wrote the film to portray their warmth, humor, and explore their mental health journey. He hopes this connection will resonate with viewers. In a statement, he expressed gratitude towards Gravitas Ventures for supporting the movie and excitement about collaborating with them to release ‘Little Brother’ to audiences.

Gravitas Ventures’ Senior Vice President of Acquisition and Operations, Bill Guentzler, expressed enthusiasm about releasing “Little Brother” in September. Film director Sheridan O’Donnell skillfully guides Daniel Diemer and Philip Ettinger to portray the genuine, heartfelt, and profound emotions that can only be shared by two brothers with a strong bond of affection.

Bill Guentzler of Gravitas Ventures negotiated the deal with Bill Straus of Bridge Independent.
