Acclaimed artist Lisa, well-known for her success with Blackpink and currently managing both the band and a thriving solo music career while dabbling in acting, has been chosen as the focus of an upcoming documentary film produced by Sony Music Vision and directed by Sue Kim, according to an announcement made on Thursday.
The news emerged during Sony Music Vision’s presentation in Hollywood, where they showcased a variety of music-based film projects they are working on. Among those present to discuss their projects was Kim, who talked about her movie based on Lisa’s life. Also present were directors like Baz Luhrmann, who elaborated on his Elvis Presley documentary which is currently in the rough-cut stage, and Frank Marshall, who shared a brief preview of his Barbra Streisand documentary that’s still in progress.
Kim mentioned that she’s been collaborating with Lisa for about a year on an upcoming movie, and no specific launch date has been set yet. It’s worth noting that the filmmaker has primarily worked on less recognized subjects in the past, such as “The Last of the Sea Women,” which debuted last autumn at the Toronto Film Festival. However, Kim isn’t new to the K-pop scene; she served as an executive producer for the docuseries titled “K-Pop Idols” on Apple TV+.
As I watched the captivating trailer for this upcoming film, it took me on a journey through various aspects of Lisa’s life – from exhilarating concert footage showcasing her solo performances to heartwarming moments shared with family members. It was intriguing to learn that even during our first encounter, Lisa reached out to her old friend group from before the fame, inviting them to be a part of this documentary, underscoring her genuine desire for authenticity and inclusiveness in the telling of her story.
Lisa expressed her excitement in a project announcement, stating: “What an amazing year it’s been! I feel incredibly fortunate to preserve these memorable moments on film and share this journey with my followers. Collaborating with Sue Kim has been a delight. We’ve traveled the globe together, and I can’t wait for more thrilling adventures ahead!
Kim, the director, expressed that it has been an honor and a delightful cinematic experience to follow Lisa throughout this transformative and exhilarating year. She mentioned that there have been several instances during Lisa’s journey which she believes will intrigue people and offer a unique peek into her life that was previously unknown. Kim is eager for the audience to watch the film and experience this extraordinary moment in Lisa’s life.
The movie titled “Lisa” is a collaboration between Tremolo Productions, Salt Water Productions, and LLOUD CO. Morgan Neville and Caitrin Rogers from Tremolo, as well as Sue Kim and Courtney Crockett from Salt Water Productions, are the documentarians for this production. Alice Kang and Joojong Joe of LLOUD CO., Peter Edge, John Fleckenstein, and Camille Yorrick from RCA Records, and Tom Mackay, Krista Wegener, and Abby Davis from Sony Music Vision serve as executive producers. The documentary will be presented and distributed jointly by Sony Music Vision in conjunction with the RCA Records label.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I’ve been thrilled about the latest development in the world of music – the release of Lisa’s debut solo album, “Alter Ego,” by LLOUD CO./RCA. Following a year-long hiatus for each member of Blackpink to explore their individual paths, this news signals their impending reunion. The group has announced a short tour for this year, with hopes of a more extended comeback in the near future. I can hardly wait!

In the latest season of “The White Lotus,” the singer additionally stepped into acting for the first time, and this aspect of her life is featured in the upcoming documentary’s preview.
Luhrmann’s showing of several minutes from his “EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert” movie – a blend of concert film and documentary, not quite fitting either category – marked the peak at the Sony Music Vision upfront event. The director shared his experience of sorting through numerous hours of never-before-seen footage. He recently screened a rough version of the film and was heartened by the positive response, even from those who aren’t Elvis Presley fans. This project features substantial audio recordings of Presley discussing aspects of his life, along with on-stage and backstage footage spanning from the 50s to the 70s.
Sony Music Vision has recently produced a series of high-profile documentaries directed by esteemed filmmakers, such as Questlove’s Sly Stone documentary, and also released an upgraded version of an old Pink Floyd concert movie that broke box office records this spring, becoming the company’s most successful big-screen release to date.
