Lioness Season 2 Episode 7 recap: A new mission is the most dangerous yet

As a military veteran who has served multiple tours of duty, I can’t help but feel a sense of familiarity and admiration for the characters in Lioness Season 2. Each episode takes me back to my own experiences, reminding me of the camaraderie, the tension, and the sheer adrenaline that comes with being part of an elite team tasked with protecting our nation’s interests.

With Joe apparently out of commission, you’d think our mission is over, wouldn’t you? But hold that thought! In Lioness Season 2 Episode 7, the stakes are high, and everything hangs in the balance.

In our latest updates, you should know that the team has been pursuing a criminal organization known as Los Tigres, believed to be a Mexican drug cartel. There are rumors suggesting their operations might be under the influence of Chinese intelligence. The first episode laid the groundwork for this pursuit, while the second introduced a significant subplot involving Josephina.

She’s the relative of the drug cartel boss, serving as a valuable resource for operations within the U.S. However, her loyalty and dedication have been tested due to internal conflicts, causing friction even with her superior, Joe.

From episodes 3 to 5, we discover intricate links to child trafficking networks, Iranian nuclear threats, and a deceitful Mexican special agent’s betrayal. With Joe critically injured after being shot, what could possibly make things any more dire in Lioness Season 2 Episode 7? Proceed with caution: spoilers follow!

The mission has changed in Lioness Season 2 Episode 7

Lioness Season 2 Episode 7 recap: A new mission is the most dangerous yet

Edwin goes to discuss with Byron about the unexpected incident involving the strike team ambush. He’s curious as to why there were suicide bombers near the border, a question that Byron suspects might be Iranian-Chinese counter-intelligence at play. Byron also thinks this could be an attempt to create instability along the border to influence elections, and he mentions rumors about nuclear activity in Tehran between the two parties. It seems they’re facing a significant threat with no clear leadership, and Edwin is determined to take decisive action – even if it means potentially damaging their careers – to prevent further trouble.

In the meantime, Joe finds himself startled and alarmed as he regains consciousness in a hospital. Neal is present with the girls when the doctor reveals that it wasn’t a bullet but a piece of Joe’s phone that caused the injury. This news doesn’t sit well with Joe, as she’s told she can’t engage in strenuous activities for the next week. Her reaction was like a heavy weight dropping. In Episode 6, Joe expressed that it was harsh of her to call Neal and threaten him with death if she were to die in action. Joe’s response? If Neal can’t handle their situation, he should consider leaving or divorcing her. Neal then communicates that she’ll actually carry out this threat if she dies.

It appears that Joe is inclined to leave, but she assures Neal that everything must be concluded according to her conditions. She’s sworn an oath and finds it difficult to abandon her responsibilities lightly. Meanwhile, Byron seeks additional information about the ambush. Joe suspects the bombers were intended to protect an asset rather than inflicting harm directly on the team. In essence, Byron assigns Joe the role of “commanding” the mission, similar to Kaitlyn’s function. However, Joe struggles when she’s not given a choice and is forced to relinquish control on the ground.

Kyle and Kaitlyn reach the location where the hostages are being kept, including our Mexican undercover agent. They’re administering a lie detector test to him to ascertain if he’s been dishonest (consider what Kaitlyn stated at the end of the previous episode). He maintains that he didn’t accept a bribe, but remains silent about whether he reported the alleged activity. It later transpires that he didn’t report it because he had murdered Keith Roberts, the individual who extended the bribe offer. He elucidates how the drug issue is spiraling out of control and far more extensive than any of them could imagine.

Kaitlyn converses with the individual who’s been assigned protective custody, who happens to be the housekeeper. She instructs Kyle to tidy up the current predicament before they strategize their forthcoming actions. They find themselves dealing with a precarious situation, as the team has verified the necessity of their departure from the location. Kaitlyn proposes a secure location in Costa Rica as their next destination, and then proceeds to visit their polygraph subject. She queries about how they can reconcile, implying they share a common objective once more – to complete what they initially set out to do.

Joe feels Kaitlyn’s wrath

Lioness Season 2 Episode 7 recap: A new mission is the most dangerous yet

In one version, the team transports Pablo to Costa Rica, meanwhile, Cruz and Josephina show up at Cruz’s residence in North Carolina. They discuss the recent events, with Josephina feeling uneasy that she may never escape Pablo’s scrutiny, no matter how the mission unfolds. The two appear bonded by a history of family violence, which strengthens their relationship. As they lean in for a kiss, there comes a knock at the door.

As I join my friends, I break the news that we’ve run into a snag – there’s no arranged lodging for our temporary base camp. Meanwhile, in Washington, I find myself at Joe’s hospital bedside. Kaitlyn, on fire with determination, expresses her disappointment that their mission didn’t prevent child trafficking but instead focused on dismantling the cartel. She feels she’s fallen short in every way. Seeking a fresh objective, she’s eager to move on swiftly. Joe, undeterred by medical advice for rest, is raring to get back to work right away.

Cruz believes the halt in the mission is due to her actions from the previous episode, whereas Josephina feels it’s entirely on her shoulders. Upon returning home, Joe expresses displeasure with Neal’s consideration for his wife’s well-being. He’s enraged with her for going to work instead of resting, explaining how fragile her health is. In response, Joe reveals more about his job – particularly, the child trafficking network. She employs this information as an explanation for her absence, heading off to the CIA.

The team is heading back to Iraq

Byron’s irritated because she’s shown up for the meeting. The discussion revolves around the advancements in Iranian-Chinese nuclear technology, with reports of weapon deliveries to Tehran. A US base is situated nearby their facility, but Joe seems perplexed about the objective. Essentially, a new mission is being proposed – one that demonstrates to both countries that they aren’t the only ones with unrestricted borders.

The conclusion is that Team Lioness is going in to strike team this, with Josephina finally being used for what she is trained for (being a helicopter pilot). There’s a strict caveat – no strikes are allowed to take place in Iraq, it has to be in Iran so “they can see how far we can reach.” Joe convinces Byron and Kaitlyn to take control, where she’s told she can only “observe and advise.” If it all goes wrong, the consequences are much more dire.

In Iran, Joe isn’t given permission to depart from the base. During their initial talk, Byron clarified Edwin’s statement – there’s no sanctioned CIA involvement here, which means we can disavow any connection if something goes awry. Kaitlyn cautions Joe to understand his capabilities and limitations, and avoid becoming a risk. Back at Cruz’s residence, Cruz and Josephina share their first kiss before their phones interrupt them. The team is aware they’re returning to Iraq, but they remain unaware of the purpose.

Dressed smartly, Joe encounters his team at the airport, yet they’re set to meet another group as well. When Josephina enquires about her role, Joe reassures her that she’s there to “turn things around.” Joe phones Neal, who’s irritated with her when he hears a plane noise in the background. Frustrated for not giving priority to the girls, he ends the call angrily. She then gets on the plane, signaling her uncertain return duration.
