LinusTechTips, a popular YouTube creator, shared that Valve didn’t seem enthusiastic about his idea to price the rumored Steam Console at $500.
Valve surprised everyone on November 12th by announcing their new gaming PC, the Steam Machine. They also revealed a new Steam controller and a virtual reality headset. This marks Valve’s first new hardware release since the Steam Deck, which they had previously said they would expand upon with another device.
The gaming PC is slated to launch in 2026, and has “six times” the power of the current Steam Deck. It will be powered by an undisclosed AMD CPU and GPU capable of running games at 4K and 60fps. The Steam Machine will have 512GB and 2TB models, with both expandable via MicroSD.
Valve hasn’t announced a price for the product yet, and is keeping that information secret, which has led to a lot of speculation about how much it will cost.
LinusTechTips weighs in on Steam Machine price
Many people predict the new gaming PC will be priced around the same as today’s PlayStation and Xbox consoles. LinusTechTips, for example, even suggested a $500 price to Valve.
He admitted on the November 15th episode of the WAN Show that he didn’t know the price and couldn’t say what it would be.
I was disappointed they weren’t pricing the device like a console, especially since the manufacturer will take 30% of all game sales. I think that would have made for a better product. When I suggested a price of $500, there was an awkward silence – you could tell people didn’t agree.

Linus thinks it would be difficult to sell the Steam Machine for more than $600, as the price wouldn’t be worth the value.
He believes that even if the Steam Machine costs $600 or $700, it wouldn’t be worth the price, as the PS5 Pro offers significantly more power.
He also pointed out that the Steam Machine won’t include a disc drive, which might make some of today’s consoles more appealing to buyers.
We probably won’t know the price of the new device until shortly before its release, just like Xbox did with their handheld gaming device, the ROG Ally X.
