Link Is Crafting His Way From Hyrule to Hollywood

Link‘s explosive cart is taking a leap into the world of entertainment. After several years of anticipation since the movie’s first announcement, we now have some exciting news, such as the release date for this intriguing artifact.

Who’s directing and writing the movie?

In a post from 2023, Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Zelda, shared that for many years he has been collaborating with Avi Arad on a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. Arad, who has a history of producing blockbuster films like the Tom Holland Spiderman series and the Marvel doll movie (notably), served as the founder and former CEO of Marvel Studios. Recently, it was announced that Wes Ball, director of The Maze Runner, will be directing this live-action Zelda film. Ball aims to make the movie more realistic and grounded, hoping to emulate the style of a “live-action Miyazaki.

Regarding the screenplay, Deadline indicates that T.S. Nowlin is penning it for the upcoming movie titled “Zelda.” Notably, this movie production is jointly funded by Nintendo and Sony, with the majority of the funds coming from Nintendo.

Has anyone been cast yet?

The push for Hunter Schafer to portray Zelda has been intense since 2022, but so far, she hasn’t been cast. Patricia Summersett, the voice of Zelda in the games, has also shown interest, expressing her desire to play the character repeatedly. Haley Joel Osment has expressed his enthusiasm for playing Link, though he wishes the movie had come out earlier in his career. He explained to IGN that Link was around 37 years old during his adventures, while at a young age, he believed a movie adaptation would be made soon. However, he acknowledges that adapting the story into a compelling two-hour film could pose challenges.

When does the movie come out?

Nintendo has made an announcement via their Nintendo Today! app stating that the “Legend of Zelda” movie will be released in theaters on March 26, 2027. This is scheduled to happen just one week after the release of “Sonic 4.” Could we possibly be in for a special double feature of “Legend of Sonic”?
