Liam Neeson Eyes Retirement From Action Movies at the End of 2025: ‘I’m 72 — It Has to Stop at Some Stage. You Can’t Fool Audiences’

As a movie enthusiast with over three decades of watching and appreciating cinema, I must say Liam Neeson‘s impending retirement from the action genre is bittersweet news. The Irishman has been an unparalleled action hero, transforming into the embodiment of raw power and emotional depth in films like “Taken” and “The Grey”. His performances have left an indelible mark on the genre, making him a true icon.

Liam Neeson, who gained fame as an action movie star following the success of “Taken” in 2008, may soon retire from this genre. In a recent interview with People magazine, he hinted at his possible retirement. Throughout the past 16 years, Neeson has been known for his on-screen fighting prowess, and even in his seventies, he still performs many of his own stunts, with assistance from longtime collaborator Mark Vanselow.

At 72, Neeson said it’s time to draw a line somewhere, ‘Audiences aren’t easily deceived.’ I don’t wish for Mark (a possible stunt double) to perform my action sequences on my behalf.

Although Liam Neeson hasn’t confirmed an exact date, he hinted at his final action movie appearance being around 2025, suggesting possibly towards the end of 2026, as he mentioned: “That might be it.

Following the success of “Taken” in 2008, Liam Neeson has since starred in numerous action films, including two sequels to “Taken” as well as titles like “Unknown” (2011), “The Grey” (2012), “Non-Stop” (2014), “Run All Night” (2015), “The Commuter” (2018), and more recently, “The Ice Road” (2021). His upcoming action film, “Absolution,” due in November, teams him up once again with director Hans Petter Moland, who he worked with on “Cold Pursuit.

In conversation with People, Moland explained what makes Neeson a timeless action star: “When he fully embodies his character, you can see the sorrow, you can see the suffering.” Essentially, he transforms into that person.

Currently, Liam Neeson is planning to retire from action movies by around 2025, but for now, he’s still involved in making them. Recently, he was chosen to star alongside Zachary Levi in “Hotel Tehran,” an upcoming action-thriller directed by Guy Moshe. This film was shot during the summer months of this year.
