Level-5 reveals Yo-kai Watch spiritual successor ghost crafting RPG Holy Horror Mansion

As a long-time fan of Yo-kai Watch and a connoisseur of Japanese RPGs, I must say that the revelation of Holy Horror Mansion has me absolutely spellbound! The series has always had a unique charm that sets it apart from other monster franchises, and this new project promises to push those boundaries even further.

At a Level-5 Vision 2024 event, they unveiled a fresh endeavor linked to the popular series “Yo-kai Watch”. However, unlike previous installments, this upcoming project won’t bear the “Yo-kai Watch” title. Instead, it will be called “Holy Horror Mansion“.

The Yo-kai Watch series shares many similarities with well-known monster franchises such as Pokemon and Digimon, where players gather creatures to battle on their behalf. However, instead of monsters, this franchise focuses on yokai and other folklore spirits. Unlike the Yo-kai Watch series which uses Medals to summon these spirits, Holy Horror Mansion will employ distinct techniques as it carries on the legacy.

In this innovative role-playing game, the protagonist is a young lad named Ten Lordland. His journey will be filled with encounters with spectral entities of different colors, and he’ll find himself entangled in their complex affairs. The green spirit has the power to animate ordinary items such as piggy banks and lucky cat figurines, transforming them into living beings. The blue entity offers players the ability to create Chimeras out of a variety of objects, using the design blueprints at hand. Lastly, the pink ghost is responsible for generating intricate dungeons for Ten to delve into.

Incidentally, Akihiro Hino hinted that Holy Horror Mansion will be Level-5’s biggest multimedia endeavor yet. The team behind this project has even joined forces with popular Japanese personalities and dance groups, such as Pikotaro from PPAP (Pen Pineapple Apple Pen) and the dance group Avantgardey, who made it to America’s Got Talent in 2023, for their reveal trailer.

Below, you’ll discover the self-contained ‘Holy Horror Mansion’ trailer featuring Japanese dialogues, with both English and Chinese subtitles for your convenience. At the time of this announcement, Level-5 hasn’t specified a launch date or the platforms on which this new game will be available.
