Lester Holt is set to leave his position on NBC Nightly News, but he won’t be going far. He’s moving full-time to Dateline within the network, with his last day on Nightly likely around the start of summer. However, there’s still some time before this transition takes place. Holt expressed his gratitude for his colleagues in a memo, stating that it has been an incredible privilege to work alongside them, always keeping journalism as their guiding principle and viewers at the heart of their work.
For eight years, Lester Holt anchored weekend broadcasts of Nightly News, eventually stepping in for Brian Williams who was suspended in 2015 following allegations of embellishing a war story. That year, in June, he was officially appointed as the anchor of Nightly News. Since 2011, he has also been the main anchor for Dateline. In a memo, Holt expressed his joy saying, “A smile comes to my face when I think that with Nightly News and Dateline, I have now anchored two of the most successful and iconic television news programs in broadcast history.” As a young radio reporter, he never imagined his career would lead him here; it has been an incredible journey.
