Leonardo DiCaprio, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Movie Moves to September; ‘The Bride’ Delayed Until March 2026

Warner Bros. made some major adjustments to their movie release calendar on Wednesday, setting a new launch date for the eagerly awaited Paul Thomas Anderson movie featuring Leonardo DiCaprio.

The Anderson project, now known as “One Battle After Another,” is enveloped in intrigue and rumored to be a gripping American crime thriller. Originally scheduled for release on August 8th, it’s now set to premiere nationwide on September 26th instead.

According to insiders, the slight delay in the movie’s release is due to the studio preparing U.S. cinemas with VistaVision projectors to cater to the director’s creative vision. This adjustment moves the film from its August slot to late September, effectively removing it from the summer box office season and positioning it nearer to the awards season, a territory where Anderson typically thrives. The studio source mentioned that films with both artistic merit and commercial success tend to perform well in this timeframe, using “Gravity” and “A Star is Born” as examples. Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor are among the stars featured in the film.

In other Warner Bros. releases, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s movie “The Bride!” is being moved from September to March 6, 2026. Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley are featured in a unique steampunk adaptation of Frankenstein’s monster and his mate, which will now have a separate theatrical release rather than Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein film starring Jacob Elordi (expected on Netflix in November). Industry insiders mention that March has been a successful month for the studio’s major franchises like the “Dune” series and Legendary’s monster movies in recent times.

Previously scheduled for a January 2026 release, Director Zach Cregger’s next project following the success of his horror film “Barbarian,” titled “Weapons,” has been moved up. Starring Josh Brolin and Julia Garner, this multi-story horror epic will now debut on August 8, which was originally set as the release date for “One Battle After Another.” This early release appears to show faith in Cregger’s latest work, with a sneak peek of the footage scheduled to be shown to global theater owners at the end of this month during CinemaCon in Las Vegas. “Weapons” will now premiere a week after Neon’s horror acquisition from Sundance, “Together,” starring Dave Franco and Alison Brie.

The intriguing production titled “Flowervale Street,” featuring Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, and Maisy Stella, has shifted its release date from March 2026 to August 14, 2026. Not much information is available about this movie directed by David Robert Mitchell (“It Follows”) and produced by J.J. Abrams, other than the fact that it’s set in the 80s and centers around a family experiencing strange occurrences in their peaceful neighborhood.

Instead of its original release date, Warner Bros. Animation has decided to showcase “The Cat in the Hat” a fortnight earlier, specifically on February 27 next year. This updated timeline allows for some separation from the upcoming Pixar film “Hoppers,” which is scheduled to debut two weeks after. In this new version, Bill Hader and Quinta Brunson lend their voices to the Dr. Seuss adaptation.
