Leonardo DiCaprio and Jane Goodall-Produced Movie ‘Howl’ Boarded by Pulsar Content, XYZ Films Ahead of AFM (EXCLUSIVE)

As a movie critic with a lifelong passion for cinema and a soft spot for heartwarming animal tales, I am utterly thrilled about Pulsar Content’s involvement in “Howl.” This movie, with its stellar cast of environmental champions like Leonardo DiCaprio and Jane Goodall, promises to be an exhilarating adventure that not only entertains but also enlightens.

Pulsar Content has joined forces with the highly anticipated film “Howl,” a project that’s been executive produced by both Leonardo DiCaprio, a renowned actor, and Jane Goodall, an esteemed environmental advocate. Based in Paris, Pulsar Content is not only serving as an executive producer but also managing international sales for this project. They will showcase this exciting venture to potential buyers at the American Film Market in Las Vegas.

From the eyes of various creatures, this survival story centers on Harry, a young dog who has recently lost his family and finds himself alone during the harsh winter in the Canadian Rockies. He forms an unexpected friendship with a solitary wolf, one of the last survivors of a pack that was tragically hunted down. At first, they experience fear and hostility towards each other, but as time passes, they begin to reveal aspects of their respective worlds, learn from one another, and eventually understand that they must work together if they are to endure.

The novel “Howl” was penned by Christopher Monger (known for the film “The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill but Came Down a Mountain”) and is set to be helmed by Elias E. Merhige, who has previously worked on the critically acclaimed Gothic movie “Shadow of a Vampire,” which was nominated for an Oscar.

Richard Johns from Promethean Pictures and Fabrice Lambot at Phase 4 Productions are jointly producing the movie. Co-production duties are also being handled by Léo Maidenberg’s Place du Marché. XYZ Films will share U.S. representation rights with Pulsar.

The pre-filming process has begun in Alberta, Canada, led by an exceptional team of filmmakers, which includes renowned animal trainer Andrew Simpson. Known for his work on “The Revenant,” “John Wick 3” and “Game of Thrones,” he is among the crew members.

As a passionate cinephile, I’d say, “I can’t wait to experience the heart-pounding thrill ride that is ‘Howl’. This film promises an exhilarating journey designed for a global audience.” Marie Garrett and Gilles Sousa, the masterminds behind Pulsar Content who are involved in this movie, have nothing but praise for its thought-provoking script. It’s not just entertaining; it also stirs your mind and invites deep reflection.

The duo explained that by maintaining the story’s viewpoint through animal eyes without anthropomorphizing them, ‘Howl will offer viewers a more intimate understanding of these creatures as they are, revealing the influence humanity has on their lives and destiny.

Garrett and Sousa pointed out that the film benefits from an impressive crew, including visionary director Elias Merhige, renowned wolf whisperer Andrew Simpson who has a one-of-a-kind approach endorsed by wildlife advocates, as well as figures like Jane Goodall and Leonardo DiCaprio serving as ambassadors for the project.

John expressed his excitement, saying, “Elias and I are thrilled to welcome Pulsar as our international distributors for ‘Howl.’ This project has been close to our hearts ever since we read Christopher Monger’s script on the very first day.

Fabrice Lambot, one of the founders of Phase 4 Productions, stated that “Howl” is an exceptional undertaking, set to become a thrilling and motivational one-of-a-kind worldwide cinematic and natural spectacle.

Now that Pulsar’s talented crew is joining us, we can start sharing their message during our production phase and aim to expand the ‘Howl’ universe in a way that captivates global audiences of diverse age groups,” Lambot added.

The executive producers are not only T.P. Lim, who heads the Malaysian chapter of Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots program at Infinitus Entertainment, but also Datuk Seri Robin Tan, chairman of Infinitus Entertainment Group, and Jment Lim, founder of Sunstrong Entertainment, who has a wealth of experience in promoting socially-conscious films across Asia.

Apart from DiCaprio, other Executive Producers (EPs) involved in “Howl” are Jennifer Davisson and Michael Hampton, who are his associates at Appian Way Productions.

Pulsar Content’s selection includes “The Opera!,” a grand musical featuring Vincent Cassel, Fanny Ardant, and Rossy De Palma that will be screened at AFM, along with the directorial debut of Joséphine Japy, titled “The Wonderers,” which stars Mélanie Laurent, Pierre-Yves Cardinal, and Angelina Woreth.
