Leon Kennedy Is Back In Resident Evil Requiem, And Now He Has A Chainsaw

The Game Awards showcased a new trailer for Resident Evil Requiem, officially confirming that Leon S. Kennedy will be featured in the game.

Sony accidentally revealed some details earlier this week. New promotional artwork showed Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of a character from a previous Resident Evil game, alongside Leon, a popular character known for his iconic ’90s look.

The latest trailer strongly resembles the movie Se7en, opening with a creepy, goggled man threatening Grace. It then reveals an older, tougher Leon Kennedy armed with an axe. We see him investigating crime scenes before engaging in a violent confrontation at a doctor’s office – using a chainsaw – and ultimately joining forces with Grace.

Producer Masato Kumazawa had hinted that some characters from the original Raccoon City incident would appear in the new game, Requiem. Capcom previously stated Leon S. Kennedy wouldn’t fit the game’s focus on intense survival horror. Given recent developments, it’s safe to say Kumazawa is likely very pleased with how things are unfolding.

Leon’s return in the upcoming game, Requiem, makes sense considering his important role as a main character in the original Resident Evil 2, alongside Claire Redfield. After the destruction of Raccoon City in that game, it only appeared once more in a major Resident Evil title – 1999’s Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Now, Requiem will bring players back to the iconic city, with a story told through the perspectives of both Leon and a new character, Grace Ashcroft, who’s investigating a disturbing mystery in a different mansion.
