I can only imagine the hilarity that ensued when Kate had to climb back onto the door after a quick bathroom break.

Recently, Kate Winslet revisited this iconic scene to share some behind-the-scenes insights.
During a Q&A at the 92nd Street Y (as reported by People), the topic of the iconic door scene from Titanic resurfaced, a moment that seems destined to stay with Kate Winslet throughout her career. Although she didn’t provide a definitive answer to the persistent question about whether Jack and Rose could have both fit on the door, she did share insights about filming the scene. Interestingly, the surroundings during shooting were quite distinct from what viewers eventually saw in the movie.
That tank was quite an inconvenient one, as it stood at waist level during that time, which made it a bit challenging for me. I found myself frequently asking if I could take a bathroom break, only to get up, step off the door, walk to the edge of the tall tank (about 20 feet away), and then had to swing my leg over and climb up just to get back on the door again. It was quite troublesome, to say the least. To clarify, Leo was kneeling down at that time. I should probably keep this to myself, but James Cameron might be calling me about it soon. Interestingly enough, what made the edge of the tank unique was that it was an infinity tank, meaning there was a constant flow of water and you could always hear the soothing sound of water running.
In the movie, Leonardo DiCaprio couldn’t stand straight in the deep water because it would have looked odd at the door where Kate Winslet was lying. As a result, he had to kneel during filming of dramatic scenes. On the other hand, Kate Winslet revealed that she could move freely in and out of the pool due to its shallowness.
It’s no wonder that the real-life film set appeared drastically distinct from the stunning landscapes depicted in the movie; capturing those scenes on location would have been impractical. To maintain safety and control, the filmmakers resorted to cinematic techniques, which at times may have given a comical impression during production.
