Lego’s new Retro Sega Genesis console revealed & it’s cheaper than Game Boy

A new Lego set inspired by the classic Sega Genesis has been officially announced, letting fans display a piece of gaming history.

Lego sets based on video games are incredibly popular right now. People love building everything from iconic scenes and characters to classic consoles they remember from their childhood.

Building on the success of the Game Boy set, Lego has just announced a new retro design: a Lego version of the Sega Genesis console. The set includes classic features like the console itself, its controllers, and a game cartridge.

Lego Retro Sega Genesis console bigger and cheaper than Game Boy

This Lego set perfectly recreates the classic Sega Genesis console. You can build it to look like either the original Sega Genesis or the Sega Mega Drive, depending on which version you remember – or simply which one you like best!

Interestingly, the Genesis is both larger and more affordable than Lego’s other retro console, the Game Boy. The Genesis set includes 479 pieces and costs $39.99 – a good deal less than the original console! For comparison, the Game Boy set has 421 pieces and costs £59.99.

The kit includes a couple of controllers that can be disconnected, a game card featuring Sonic and Tails, a small Sonic-themed detail on the console itself, and interchangeable signs so you can choose between ‘Genesis’ or ‘Mega Drive’ on the console’s exterior.

The new console is scheduled to launch on June 1, 2026, meaning fans won’t have to wait much longer to assemble it and show it off – ideally alongside their original Sega Genesis or Mega Drive.
