To celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, Lego shared a sweet message after people jokingly noted his age might make playing with Lego bricks a bit difficult.
You know what’s hilarious? Lego boxes have these age recommendations, and it’s seriously strange. They say kids as young as four can play with them, but then it goes all the way up to… 99 years old! So basically, if you hit 100, Lego is telling you you’re too old to build with the bricks. It’s a funny little detail I noticed!
Okay, so it’s a bit sad to think about, but our beloved David Attenborough turned 100 on May 8th, 2026, and honestly? It got me thinking he’s probably at the age where he’s given up Lego! It’s not something most of us have to worry about, thankfully, but it’s a funny little thought about a national treasure.
Fortunately, the company has indicated it’s open to making exceptions to the rules for the popular broadcaster.
Lego raises age limit so that David Attenborough can still play
Lego wished Sir David Attenborough a happy 100th birthday on Instagram, adding that age is just a number for those who continue to be playful at heart.
The message included a picture of a Lego Classic box with a new age range of 4 to 100+. It also said, “Updated for you, Sir David.” This means Lego will continue to send Sir David Attenborough sets for at least another year, and the “+” suggests they’ll keep coming for many years after that.

As expected, people loved the post, calling it heartwarming and saying it helped calm their worries. Many praised the marketing team, with one person even suggesting they deserved a raise. Others simply called it a sweet and thoughtful gesture.
People around the world are celebrating his birthday with many heartfelt tributes, like a large beach portrait created in the UK.
I’ve been a huge fan of Sir David Attenborough for years! He was born way back in 1926 and has been making incredible TV shows for over 70 years. Everyone knows him for his amazing nature documentaries – I mean, shows like Life on Earth, Planet Earth, and Blue Planet really brought the natural world to life and showed me things I never knew existed. He has a way of getting so close to animals, it’s just breathtaking.
