Lego James Bond Footage Allegedly Leaks, But Don't Expect To See It Get Made

As a die-hard fan of both Lego games and James Bond, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia tinged with regret at the news of the lost opportunity that was the proposed Lego James Bond adventure. Having grown up on a diet of GoldenEye and Lego bricks, the prospect of combining these two beloved entities seemed like a match made in heaven. The thought of Oddjob flinging hats instead of golf balls, or Q equipping Bond with an exploding pen, had me salivating at the mouth.

As a hardcore gamer, I’ve always dreamt about diving into a Lego adaptation of the iconic James Bond film franchise. Word on the street was that TT Games was planning to shake things up (without stirring a martini) with a Lego-fied 007 adventure. A tantalizing sneak peek, or “sizzle reel,” of this proposed game featuring the suave British secret agent popped up online, but it’s since vanished from YouTube.

As reported through Eurogamer, the teaser for this project apparently surfaced unintentionally on a Discord platform. The brief clip (approximately 60 seconds) showcased action reminiscent of James Bond movies dating back to Goldfinger and Casino Royale. Given that TT Games would have been involved in its development, the game’s concept seems to embody a playful humor, as evidenced by Oddjob, Goldfinger’s right-hand man, wielding a variety of hats to throw at Bond in the teaser video.

On Reddit, LEGOGameMuseum stated that the demo reel was created during the last year of Lego Dimensions production. However, The Lego Group declined it because of the violent and sexually suggestive themes in the Bond films, which contradicted the family-oriented image of the company. LEGOGameMuseum added in a separate comment that The Lego Group now appears more open to experimentation in gaming, so there’s a possibility for reconsideration. The main obstacle for TT Games would be Warner Bros. requiring them to continue using only their owned intellectual properties.

For quite some time now, there hasn’t been an officially released James Bond game. However, a fresh one is in development by IO Interactive, known for their work on Hitman. This new project was unveiled in 2020 and goes by the temporary title of Project 007. The studio is eager to bring something unique to the table with their original interpretation of Bond, James Bond.

IO Interactive envisions this game serving as the opening act in a planned trilogy, as they aim to craft an innovative backstory for the MI6 undercover agent, distinct from any prior Bond film adaptations.
