Lego Game Boy Is Back In Stock At Walmart, Sold Out Everywhere Else

Okay, so I’m super hyped because the Lego Game Boy is coming out next week, on October 1st! It’s a pretty cool replica of the original handheld, with 421 pieces, and it costs $60. Honestly, it’s been hard to get one – preorders sold out ages ago. I was bummed when the Lego Store ran out, but thankfully Walmart just restocked! As of today, September 24th, everything else is out of stock – Amazon, Target, Best Buy, and GameStop all have nothing left. If you want one, you gotta jump on it now at Walmart!

This LEGO Game Boy is nearly the same size as the original handheld console that became a global hit after its release in Japan and North America in 1989. It’s a fantastic item for display, and fans of classic Nintendo games will love its retro features.

The Lego Game Boy building kit is designed for adult builders and collectors and was first hinted at in January before being officially revealed at San Diego Comic-Con in July. It’s one of the most affordable models in Lego’s Nintendo collection, costing the same as the Super Mario Piranha Plant. This kit is the eighth Nintendo-themed set Lego has created for adults, following their initial collaboration which began with a Nintendo Entertainment System replica.

Lego Nintendo Display Models for Adults

The Lego Game Boy shares similarities with the Lego Nintendo Entertainment System, offering interactive features like loading cartridges and showing scenes from real games. Originally released in August 2020 to celebrate Lego’s collaboration with Nintendo, the 2,646-piece set included a console with a working cartridge slot, a Super Mario Bros. game cartridge, a wired controller, and a TV with a stand. A crank on the TV allows you to move Mario through a side-scrolling level. Even after five years, the NES Lego set is still considered one of the most impressive gaming-themed Lego creations.

The Lego NES has been discontinued and is no longer available at most stores. While Amazon briefly restocked it a few months ago, they increased the price by $60. As we predicted when preorders for the Lego Game Boy began, the NES quickly sold out on Amazon at that higher price of $330. Now, the only way to find the Lego NES is through resellers, and many are charging far more than $330.

Good news for Lego fans! You can currently find the Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi set at a significantly reduced price on both Amazon and Walmart. This 1,215-piece set, which came out last October, lets you build pixelated versions of Mario and Yoshi inspired by the classic 16-bit video game. A fun feature is that Yoshi actually ‘walks’ when you turn a crank, and you can even make him stick his tongue out by twisting a dial!

Lego recently released a new Mario Kart set aimed at adults. This 1,972-piece set features a buildable Mario figure and his iconic red kart. It was first available in May at the Lego Store for $170 and became available at other stores in July. You can find a detailed review of the Mario & Standard Kart set on our website.

While you’re waiting for your Lego Game Boy, why not build the 540-piece Piranha Plant from Super Mario Bros. to pass the time?

Lego Retro Gaming Hardware

Lego has released several display sets inspired by classic video game consoles. One notable example is the Lego Icons: Atari 2600, a detailed 2,532-piece model that perfectly recreates the iconic Atari console. While Lego stopped making it last year, it was recently restocked on Amazon at the original price, so it’s a good time to buy if you’re interested.

You can still find the Lego Icons Pac-Man Arcade at most major stores for $270. It’s a fantastic collectible with over 2,600 pieces and lots of fun interactive features, especially for Pac-Man lovers. If you want something similar but more affordable, the Lego Arcade Machine is a great option. While it doesn’t recreate a specific arcade game, it still looks really cool and only costs $40. It even comes with a minifigure designed for gamers!

  • Lego Arcade Machine (468 pieces) — $40
  • Lego Icons: Pac-Man Arcade (2,651 pieces) — $261.66 ($270)
  • Lego Icons: Atari 2600 (2,532 pieces) — $240 | Retired
