Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight is being played weeks early after glitch

A lucky fan apparently got to play the new Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark game a week before its release, thanks to a strange error with their Walmart order.

It’s one thing to pay to play a game early, but getting access a week before its official release because of a mistake is a completely different situation.

One Reddit user had an unexpectedly early start with the new game. After receiving a digital code from Walmart, they were able to redeem it and begin playing right away, even getting past the opening screen to explore the game’s world.

Lego Batman fans report early access from Walmart codes

I was so hyped for the new Lego Batman Legacy of The Dark Knight game that I pre-ordered it right away! It was a cool surprise when they let me download it immediately. Then, I got a notification saying it was ready to play, and when I clicked to start… well, let’s just say something unexpected happened!

Below are screenshots showing the game’s beginning, loading sequences, and the famous Wayne Manor.

Fans were thrilled and quickly shared their own stories. One player mentioned getting the game early on their Xbox Series X, and another said they tried the same method.

I’m a big fan and recently grabbed the standard digital version for my Xbox Series X/S – it cost me $70. I bought it through the Walmart app on my iPhone, and Walmart shipped and sold it to me directly. They emailed me the code right away, which was awesome, and I was able to redeem it on my Xbox immediately. I’m in the US, in the Central Time Zone. I was so excited I played all night! Then, when I finally logged off, I saw there was a required update available.

The cause of this problem isn’t known for sure. Some believe a version of the game was accidentally released before it was secured, letting players access it early. Others think Walmart gave out the wrong access codes. However, the problem has now been fixed.

This follows a major leak for Forza, which faced a comparable issue with its planned launch.
