Legendary LoL pro Perkz retires after almost a decade of competing

In the annals of League of Legends (LoL) history, Perkz stands as one of the greatest pros, marking the pinnacle of G2’s glory days and being among the select few who could outshine top-tier teams from South Korea and China. Back then, he represented one of the Western world’s few promising prospects for clinching a World Championship title.

For years, Western teams had been relatively quiet on the international stage, but G2’s 2019 team shook things up significantly. They not only won the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and ruled domestically, but they also came very close to claiming victory at Worlds 2019. Each member of that squad left an indelible mark on League of Legends’ competitive legacy.

On other squads, Perkz aimed to replicate the same impressive heights, yet couldn’t establish a significant impact. Despite notable contributions to Cloud9 and Team Vitality, he fell short of recapturing his 2019 pinnacle performance.

As a devoted fan, I’m sharing the news that Perkz, who’s about to embark on a new journey as a father, has chosen to step away permanently from professional gaming and venture into other exciting pursuits.

Perkz retires from LoL pro play after illustrious career

2015 saw Perkz join the ranks of Gamers2, an event that would go down in League of Legends lore. This was prior to their rebranding, and it signified the start of what would become the greatest roster a Western League of Legends team has ever assembled.

As a gamer myself, I can’t help but marvel at the extraordinary synergy between Caps and Perkz on our team. With me and Perkz being mid laners by nature, many might have thought we’d clash. But instead, it was like magic watching us complement each other. Whether I was holding down the mid lane or Perkz was dominating as an ADC, we both shone brightest when playing alongside G2’s peak roster of Wunder, Jankos, Caps, and Mikyx. Our teamwork was so seamless that it hardly seemed to matter which roles either of us played. It’s a feeling I won’t soon forget.

After departing his professional career at G2, Perkz has publicly declared that he’s choosing to retire and will not be rejoining the competitive scene in the future.

End of an arc.

He announced that he’s stepping away from competitive play at the age of 26. He finds it hard to believe, but he’s referring to the world of esports.

I’m tired of dealing with the negative aspects associated with competition stress. Throughout my career, I’ve poured everything into my play and the teams I’ve been a part of, which is something that many can vouch for. Regrettably, there have been times when my best efforts fell short or were misdirected, but I always gave my utmost.

The ex-pro asserts that the “Perkz” moniker is no longer active, and he’s transitioning into a role as a father, focusing on living his life.

After retiring, Perkz is uncertain about his next steps since he intends to spend a couple of months off work, primarily focusing on being present for his upcoming first child’s birth and ensuring support for both his newborn and spouse.

Since Mikyx and Caps are the last remaining stars from the legendary G2 roster actively playing in the LEC, it won’t be long before European League of Legends fans must bid farewell to their most accomplished team yet and look towards nurturing fresh talent.
