As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for uncovering hidden gems and predicting the next big hit, I find myself thoroughly intrigued by the news of Caroline Dries joining the “Legally Blonde” prequel series, “Elle.” With her impressive resume that spans from the CW’s “Batwoman” to the legendary “The Vampire Diaries,” it seems as if she has a knack for breathing life into beloved franchises.

It’s been learned exclusively by EbMaster that Caroline Dries is functioning as a co-executive producer for the “Legally Blonde” prequel series “Elle” on Amazon Prime Video.

The series was officially given the go-ahead by Amazon in May, and it’s only recently been revealed that Dries joined the project soon afterwards. Her participation wasn’t previously disclosed, but she will now co-lead the show with its original creator, Laura Kittrell.

Previously mentioned, the upcoming series will delve into the teenage years of character Elle Woods, offering viewers a glimpse into the formative events that molded her into the beloved icon depicted in the original “Legally Blonde” movie, as suggested by the show’s official synopsis.

Previously, Dries held the position of showrunner and creator for the CW series titled “Batwoman,” which ran successfully for three seasons on their network. Beyond this, her television resume boasts writing and executive production roles in various popular shows such as “The Vampire Diaries” (also on the CW), as well as “Melrose Place,” “Smallville,” “Arrow,” and “Gotham Knights.” In the realm of films, Dries has recently sold the screenplay for the thriller “Over Asking” to Paramount Pictures, with Karen Rosenfelt overseeing production.

She is repped by WME, Entertainment 360, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.

In this arrangement, Kittrell takes on the roles of creator, executive producer, and joint showrunner, while Dries steps in as co-showrunner and executive producer. Reese Witherspoon, known for her role in “Legally Blonde,” serves as an executive producer alongside Lauren Neustadter under Hello Sunshine, a division of Candle Media. Additionally, Lauren Kisilevsky and Marc Platt will also assume the executive producer roles. The production company is Amazon MGM Studios.

The original “Legally Blonde” movie, which premiered in 2001, was an enormous hit at the box office, earning more than $140 million globally. The second film, titled “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde,” followed in 2003. A third film, released directly to video, emerged in 2009, although Witherspoon did not appear on screen but instead served as a producer. In 2007, a stage musical adaptation of the first film made its Broadway debut, garnering several Tony and Drama Desk nominations.
