As someone who has battled with personal struggles and has seen the power of art to heal, I am genuinely excited about the upcoming film “Dismantling an Elephant.” The story seems to resonate deeply with my own experiences, particularly the portrayal of a mother’s complex relationship with her child and the struggle with addiction.
Filmax, a Spanish company handling production, sales, and distribution, has joined forces with “Dismantling an Elephant,” the newest film from Barcelona-based Arcadia Motion Pictures. This studio is known for producing Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s foreign-language Cesar Award winner “The Beasts” and the animated feature “Robot Dreams,” which was nominated for an Academy Award.
Filmax distributes “Dismantling an Elephant” worldwide, excluding Spain. This film features Emma Suárez, a triple Goya award-winning actress from Pedro Almodovar’s “Julieta,” and Natalia de Molina, who has won two Goyas, including one for David Trueba’s “Living Is Easy With Eyes Closed,” which was the 2014 Spanish Academy Goya Award winner.
This week at the American Film Market, Filmax will present trailers of their movie that’s nearing completion in post-production to potential buyers.
In ‘Dismantling an Elephant,’ Suárez takes on a challenging character that suits her well, portraying a mother who finds herself caught between a loving bond with her daughter and the turmoil it brings, while also grappling with an unspoken addiction in her daily life that serves as an invisible elephant in the room.
One leitmotif of the film is contemporary dance, which offers the daughter a form of release.
The initial film titled “Dismantling an Elephant,” hailing from Spain, stars Dario Grandinetti (“Talk to Her”) and Alba Guilera (“One Year, One Night”). In simpler terms, the movie is called “Dismantling an Elephant” and it features Dario Grandinetti and Alba Guilera.
Arcadia Motion Pictures produces with Pegaso Pictures AIE and France’s Noodles Production.
Producer Andrea Martínez stated, “‘Dismantling An Elephant’ is a film that offers a unique perspective on a societal taboo, addiction. It tells the story of a mother’s recovery journey from her own and her adult daughter’s viewpoints. Our aim is for this film to spark conversation about topics we often find difficult to discuss; the elephant in the room, if you will, that people try to avoid but should confront if we wish to progress in our lives.
Ivan Diaz, head of international at Filmax, stated that this project features an exceptional cast which results in an impressive performance from beginning to end, often referred to as a ‘masterpiece.’ The actors’ emotional depth and care they show towards their characters underscores the reason they are all highly respected and regarded as masters of their profession.
