Leaked Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 set photos tease controversial Shadowland story

Photos leaked on set suggest that Matt Murdock will be wearing a fresh costume in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, and it seems Marvel enthusiasts can’t help but get excited!

It appears they are quite excited because the images reveal Charlie Cox’s stunt double wearing a fresh black-and-red outfit, adorned with a double-D symbol for the first time – this costume design is reminiscent of the disputed Shadowland storyline from the Daredevil comic books.

In this contentious narrative, Matt Murdock adopted a revised, more ominous black-and-red attire to strive for tranquility in Hell’s Kitchen, employing the force of The Hand as needed. Along his journey, he eliminated his arch-rival, Bullseye, signaling lethal intentions towards other New York supervillains.

In the final act, a group of New York City’s superheroes – White Tiger, Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Moon Knight – united to thwart Matt. It was later disclosed that he had been under the influence of a demon (which is not an uncommon occurrence in comic books).

Shadowland split fans

Instead, let me rephrase that statement for you: Essentially, this narrative sparked a lot of disagreement among readers due to several factors, but the main criticisms centered around its excessive use of supernatural elements, its overly dark atmosphere (which is quite remarkable given Daredevil’s usual tone), and the perception that it was hastily produced.

It was widely praised by comic enthusiasts that the black-and-red suit was stunning, and these leaked images have been greeted with excitement. One user on X/Twitter commented, “The Shadowland color scheme is amazing,” while another exclaimed, “All my dreams are finally coming true.

It’s been noted by several fans that donning the Shadowland suit doesn’t necessarily imply an adaptation of Shadowland. In fact, given the current events in Born Again, it appears we are far from adapting a dark, mystical tale involving demonic possession and homicide.

Reasons to be optimistic

It appears that the black attire and Daredevil emblem on the costume are not the actual Shadowland suit, but instead seem to be graffiti or paint job, likely done by Muse. This really takes things up a notch 😱πŸ”₯πŸ”₯.

It appears quite plausible that Season 2 might adopt the costume from Shadowland and center its narrative around the question of whether Daredevil overstepped his boundaries. The excessive elements that marred the original plotline, including Mephisto, are likely to be omitted in this Marvel series.

There’s a chance some scenes reminiscent of Shadowland might make an appearance, similar to how Daredevil Season 3 incorporated an action scene from the Guardian Devil storyline. However, overall, I expect it to stand as a unique entity on its own.

I’d like to add that although the suit appears to be the original Daredevil costume painted red (the Shadowland suit), it’s important to note that Matt Murdock has worn black and slim-fitting outfits on other occasions as well. In Charles Soule’s early issues of Daredevil, Matt was seen wearing a red and black suit, so it’s possible that this new dark suit is inspired by that period in the story rather than Shadowland.

It seems likely that we’ll need to be patient as we find out what becomes of Daredevil and Hell’s Kitchen. However, one thing is certain: Matt will always manage to appear stylish amidst any circumstances.
