The concept artwork for Swaybox Studios’ animated series titled “Dynamic Duo”, which is a spinoff of Batman, apparently surfaced online on May 30th. This leak rapidly gained momentum, causing such a stir that Swaybox Studios felt compelled to issue an official statement.
Originally, three sketches believed to be from the series “Dynamic Duo” were initially shared on Reddit in an informal subreddit dedicated to DC Animated Universe (DCAU). These sketches depicted:
1. Batman entering a shared bedroom that Dick and Jason call their own.
2. A future Nightwing and Red Hood examining Gotham from the roof of a building.
3. The central focus being the designs for our main characters, the dynamic duo themselves.
Jason’s striking red mohawk hairdo drew instant interest from fans, with some expressing doubts. However, this wasn’t the first time Jason had sported red hair in animation or comics; his secret redhead status was initially revealed in Grant Morrison’s Batman and Robin. This comic is known to have served as one of the key influences for James Gunn’s DC Universe.
Luckily for fans concerned about Jason’s drastic new appearance in the upcoming movie, Swaybox Studios has clarified that the artwork leaked on Instagram was not part of their production, stating plainly, “The leaked concept art is not related to our film.
Ever since the news of the “Dynamic Duo” broke last October, fans have been eagerly awaiting a glimpse of what the Batman spinoff and its characters might appear as. But with no official images yet, we’re left guessing for quite some time. However, one enthusiastic fan decided to bring their imagination to life, creating this unofficial concept art.
Culprit of ‘Leaked’ Concept Art Revealed
A day following the discrediting of the concept art by Swaybox Studios, an artist identified as Marcus Evans stepped up to acknowledge his work, even sharing a video where he detailed and sketched the designs for Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.
On his Tumblr page, Evans discussed in greater detail the design for Robin’s costume, specifically Dick Grayson’s. He shared his intention to reflect Dick as a Romani character by incorporating a floral pattern on his cape and featuring the red cartwheel symbol at the cape’s edge. Additionally, he aimed to give the overall costume a vintage circus vibe.
Previously, Evans created deceptive concept art for an abandoned animated Batman Beyond film back in 2019. Fingers crossed, unlike the previous attempt, the project Dynamic Duo will ultimately be shown on the big screen someday.
As a devoted fan, I must admit my anticipation for “Dynamic Duo” is running high, but with its release set for Spring 2028, there’s an element of uncertainty about whether it will even make it to production, given the critical importance of “Superman’s” success at the box office to the DC Universe’s future.
As a seasoned movie critic, I must admit that there’s been no official word yet on whether “Dynamic Duo” will unfold within the DCU as a prequel or standalone Elseworld tale.
