Leading Spanish Indies La Claqueta, Amania Films Launch Andalusian-Basque Production Pact (EXCLUSIVE)

As a fervent admirer of the vibrant world of Spanish cinema, I find the partnership between Amania Films and La Claqueta nothing short of exhilarating! This collaboration is like a harmonious fusion of the Basque spirit and the Andalusian momentum, promising to create a symphony that will resonate far beyond the Iberian Peninsula.

In collaboration, Amania Films from San Sebastian and La Claqueta of Andalusia have forged a strategic alliance aimed at amplifying their influence in Spain’s media industry as well as expanding their reach globally.

This partnership, as stated by the companies, signifies a significant step forward in the collaboration between Basque and Andalusian cinematography. It underscores their dedication to fostering diversity and promoting each other’s growth.

Under their fresh partnership, the initial venture will be the high-priced serial killer drama-thriller “Sacamantecas,” helmed by David Pérez Sañudo, founder of Amania Productions and an acclaimed filmmaker with numerous accolades. Additionally, these companies are preparing to collaborate on a new fictional series, “Maddi y las fronteras,” which is inspired by the fictionalized biography of María Josefa Sansberro written by Edurne Portela. This character was a real individual who supported the French resistance during World War II and tragically lost her life in a Nazi concentration camp.

As part of their agreement, La Claqueta will gain a share of Amania, while providing assistance to enable Amania to tackle bigger ventures. The Basque-based company will also join forces with La Claqueta’s Antípodas Film Lab, a post-production company established four years ago in Seville by editor José Manuel García Moyano and colorist/VFX supervisor Juan Ventura. In turn, Amania plans to establish a new branch of the lab in the Basque Country.

In the role of the Spanish Academy Goya-winning feature film “Ane is Missing,” Amania will retain control over its daily operations while preserving its unique cultural identity as a producer of Basque movies. The current Amania team will stay together, with Pérez Sañudo continuing to head the group.

Through this partnership, we can preserve our unique identity while simultaneously exploring fresh avenues within the industry. By joining forces, both entities bring together their wealth of experience and dynamic energy to keep pushing forward in the northern regions of Spain, while also benefiting from the drive of the southern regions, and reciprocally. This was expressed by Pérez Sañudo regarding the alliance.

Olmo Figueredo, the creator behind La Claqueta and the Antípodas Film Lab, expressed that this agreement serves as a chance for us all to flourish together, while preserving the individuality, creative vision, and distinctive essence of each of our film companies. Our aim is to further boost Basque and Andalusian cinema, and by joining forces, we can achieve this goal on an even larger and more international scale.

For years, La Claqueta has been a reliable partner for Basque filmmakers and production companies. They’ve collaborated with Irusoin of San Sebastian on the documentaries “30 Years of Darkness” and “The Endless Trench,” the latter being a fiction piece that garnered multiple Goyas and was inspired by it. Additionally, La Claqueta has been instrumental in bringing Basque titles like “El Estado contra Pablo Ibar,” directed by Figueredo, “Los últimos románticos,” helmed by Pérez Sañudo, and the animated documentary “The Longest Journey” from director Manuel H. Martín and animation studio Dibulitoon to fruition.
