Leading K-Content Firms Strike Supply Deals With U.S. FAST Channel Samsung TV Plus (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned movie critic who has traversed the globe to uncover hidden gems in the world of cinema, I find myself utterly enamored by the latest development in the realm of streaming content: the expansion of Korean content on Samsung TV Plus.

Major South Korean content providers such as CJ ENM and NEW ID have sealed partnerships with Samsung TV Plus, a free ad-supported television service based in the United States.

With over 4,000 hours of complimentary Korean shows and films accessible at your convenience, this channel stands out as one of the biggest suppliers of Korean content in the U.S. market. Samsung TV Plus is a built-in, free-to-stream service available on Samsung TVs, Galaxy devices, Family Hub, and smart monitors.

Salek Brodsky, Samsung TV Plus’s senior vice president and general manager, stated that K-Content is no longer a specialized area – it has become one of the fastest expanding and most popular categories on a global scale.

The roster features monthly specials hailing from CJ ENM, a prominent media company in South Korea known for films and television, such as “Voice 4”, “Dark Hole”, and the romantic drama “Doom at Your Service”.

Unscripted series like “The Genius Paik” and “Three Meals a Day,” as well as travel shows such as “House on Wheels” and “Youn’s Kitchen,” are set to debut in the U.S. on our channel. Additionally, the psychological thriller drama “Beyond Evil,” distributed by NEW ID, is coming soon.

Korean films have been popular on a global scale for a longer time than Korean dramas. The latest cinematic selections will feature “Burning,” directed by Lee Chang-dong and starring Steven Yeun, who is also known for his role in “Beef.” Additionally, “A Taxi Driver,” which was Korea’s entry for the Oscars in 2017 and stars Song Kang-ho, will be included. These films come from NEW.

KT Alpha broadcasts a range of movies such as “Joint Security Area,” “Oh! Brothers,” “The President’s Last Bang,” and “26 Years.” They are currently discussing deals with numerous additional content providers, numbering in the hundreds.

Seo Jang-ho, from CJ ENM’s content business division, shared his excitement about Samsung TV Plus. He’s thrilled not just to share our wide range of content with global viewers, but also to seek partnerships that can help us extend the reach and influence of Korean entertainment even more.

During television commercial intervals, advertisements will be shown. Samsung Ads, our top-tier advertising service, enhances our exclusive consumer insights and rich first-hand data to create powerful advertising campaigns for brands, on a large scale,” Brodsky explained.

A number of streaming services are fiercely battling to bring top-quality Korean content to viewers. Companies like Netflix and Disney are pouring large sums into exclusive Korean movies and TV shows. Notably, Netflix is showcasing “Uprising,” the main film at this year’s Busan International Film Festival, which started on Wednesday (local time). Similarly, KOCOWA, Rakuten Viki, and Disney are broadcasting concerts and documentaries. Meanwhile, CJ ENM leads investment in Tving, a Korean streaming platform offering movies, series, and sports content, with previous plans to extend its reach globally as well.

A large number of our associates run thriving subscription services and employ various strategies to optimize their content’s monetization and reach. FAST continues to be a valuable addition, serving as an effective and supplementary method for distributing their programming. Samsung TV Plus is accessible on over 600 million devices globally, making it an exceptional platform for the worldwide dissemination of content, particularly movies and television shows that cross cultural boundaries,” Brodsky shared with EbMaster.
