‘Law and Order: SVU’ Names Michele Fazekas First Female Showrunner in Series History

For the first time ever, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” has appointed a woman as the head of its production team.

It’s been verified that Michele Fazekas is now in charge of the police drama, a role she’s stepping into after serving as a writer and co-executive producer on the show from 2001 to 2006. She replaces David Graziano, who has been at the helm for the last three seasons.

Reps for NBC declined to comment.

Right now, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” is on its 26th season, though it hasn’t officially been confirmed yet that there will be a Season 27. However, many anticipate that this confirmation will come within the next few weeks.

Together with their long-term collaborator Tara Butters, Fazekas has recently served as a co-executive producer on the “Gen V” spinoff of “The Boys,” which streams on Amazon. At present, the second season for this series is being developed.

Together with Butters, Fazekas developed television shows such as “Emergence” and “Kevin (Probably) Saves the World”. They also served as co-executive producers for the acclaimed Marvel series “Agent Carter”, starring Hayley Atwell, and “Resurrection”. Their additional TV works encompass “Hawaii Five-O” and “NCIS: Los Angeles”.

Fazekas is repped by Adventure Media and Gendler, Kelly, Cunningham.

The longest-standing series within the “Law & Order” brand, “SVU,” features Mariska Hargitay portraying Capt. Olivia Benson, a member of NYPD’s Special Victims Unit that tackles crimes involving sexual offenses. Created by Dick Wolf and co-produced with Hargitay, Graziano, Julie Martin, Norberto Barba, Kenneth Brown, and Peter Jankowski, this series is jointly produced by Universal Television and Wolf Entertainment.

Deadline first reported Fazekas’ hiring.
