Following the bustling European Film Market, prominent Spanish film distributor Latido Films has acquired the rights to Gracia Querejeta’s tenth movie, titled “The Good Luck.” This film is set to compete in this year’s Malaga Film Festival screenings.
Titled “Good Fortune,” inspired by renowned Spanish novelist Rosa Montero’s work of the same name, revolves around Pablo, who chooses to alight at a shabby town and purchase an antiquated, dilapidated apartment on the other side of the tracks as a means to start anew, disregarding his true identity as a renowned architect. He could be fleeing from someone or something, or perhaps even from himself. The only thing in town that seems to be moving forward is Raluca, a woman brimming with optimism and receptive to any unexpected changes that might improve her life. She has chosen to rely on luck, despite the fact that life hasn’t always been generous to her.
The managing director of Latido, Antonio Saura, characterizes the movie as “an intriguing investigation into the depths of human nature, skillfully portrayed by an esteemed female director delving into the inner realm of a male architect. This outstanding film sparks thought-provoking questions and offers insights on the human condition. At Latido, we value our long-term partnerships with producers and artists. In this instance, we honor Gracia Querejeta’s return to work alongside Tornasol Films, where she has achieved some of her past victories, and it is a true honor for us to be part of what could be her third collaboration with us.
In this upcoming production, actors Hugo Silva from “One Love” and Megan Montaner of “30 Coins” will share the screen together. The project, produced by Tornasol Media, Arlas PC, and Trianera PC, is being distributed in Spain by Karma Films.
In a new twist for filmmaker Querejeta, adapting ‘The Good Luck’ novel to the big screen isn’t just about overcoming the usual challenges. What makes it unique is that the narrative isn’t limited to Pablo and Raluca, who are central characters. Instead, Rosa Montero skillfully incorporates the inner thoughts of five or six characters into the story, almost as if she herself were another character witnessing their journey.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’ve expressed that we’ll focus on the heart-wrenching and illuminating aspects of this novel – primarily the harrowing tale of Pablo and his son, and the radiant, romantic story between Pablo and Raluca. These captivating characters will take us on a profound journey through their pasts, presents, and even hint at their shared future. We’ll delve into the reasons shaping their unique personalities and explore how they engage with others in their lives.
Querejeta’s remarkable career in solo directing dates back to 1987 with her first short film, “Tres en la marca.” Since then, she has won over audiences with hit films like “By My Side Again,” “Siete mesas de billar francés,” and “15 Years and One Day,” the latter two featuring Maribel Verdú (known for “Y tu mamá también” and “The Flash”). These titles have also earned nominations for Spanish Academy Goya Awards.
