‘Lanterns’ Casts Aaron Pierre as John Stewart

Aaron Pierre is officially joining the Green Lantern series at HBO, EbMaster has learned.

Pierre has been cast as John Stewart in the upcoming series known as “Lanterns.” Earlier reports suggested that Kyle Chandler might play Hal Jordan, but it now appears that several other actors were also in the running for the role of Stewart. Among them were Stephan James and Damson Idris.

The program is jointly created by HBO, Warner Bros. Television, and DC Studios, and it’s inspired by the Green Lantern comic books published by DC.

In June, the show got approved for eight episodes on HBO. Initially planned as an exclusive for Max, it was moved to HBO due to a fresh strategy in distributing content.

According to the given tagline, the series unfolds around “John Stewart, a fresh recruit, and Hal Jordan, an esteemed Green Lantern, who become entangled in a sinister mystery on Earth while probing into a murder in the Midwest of America.

Most recently, Pierre shone in the highly successful Netflix movie “Rebel Ridge,” which premiered on September 6 and has remained on Netflix’s top 10 English-language films list since then, spending three weeks at the number one spot. His small screen appearances encompass playing Malcolm X in the National Geographic series “Genius: MLK/X” and starring in Barry Jenkins’ miniseries “The Underground Railroad.” Pierre also made an appearance on the DC series “Krypton,” portraying Dev-Em. In addition, his filmography includes titles like “Foe,” “Brother,” and “Old.” Pierre is also slated to take on the role of Mufasa in Jenkins’ upcoming Disney prequel film for “The Lion King.

Pierre is repped by WME, Anonymous Content, Hamilton Hodell, Sloane Offer, and Narrative.

The series ‘Lanterns’ was created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, who all take on the role of executive producers. Additionally, James Hawes serves as an executive producer, and he also directs the initial two episodes.
