2024 saw an unprecedented television premiere that steered clear of superheroes, medical professionals, secret agents, or media tycoons, instead focusing on the Texas oil industry. Although the series “Landman” does include some non-media billionaires and had a cameo from Jerry Jones, let’s move past that. Taylor Sheridan’s latest streaming drama became a massive success for Paramount+ viewers, with Emmy nominations also within reach. As they are currently filming Season 2, the cast members shared their insights about the upcoming season.
Billy Bob Thornton On Sam Elliott And Andy Garcia In Season 2
It’s not surprising that Thornton was tight-lipped about details regarding the upcoming season. In his conversation with THR, he didn’t reveal any plot points. However, he did confirm that filming for Season 2 began in April and is expected to wrap up in August. Additionally, Thornton discussed the significant addition to Season 2, Sam Elliott, who has previously worked on a Taylor Sheridan series, 1883.
It’s been awesome, I’ve known Sam since the ’80s so he and I go way back.
Without a doubt, Billy Bob Thornton made an appearance in the series 1883, playing Marshal Jim Courtright in a particularly intense episode. Interestingly enough, it appears that they worked together for the first time in the 1992 western film Tombstone. It seems their friendship might have started even before this collaboration. While we can’t predict what the future holds, it’s safe to say that given their history, Sam Elliott is unlikely to make a sudden appearance like Andy Garcia’s character Galino did in the Season 1 finale.
Regarding Garcia, Billy Bob Thornton affirmed that the character would play a more significant part in Season 2, and he also discussed their shared past.
This year, he’s definitely going to play a bigger role, that much is certain. As for me and Andy, we have a long history, but this will be our first project together.
In the final episode of “Landman,” both actors appeared together in a scene where Thornton’s character, Tommy, was bound and assaulted. It would be intriguing to observe if Season 2 develops their storyline so that Galino and Tommy frequently interact. I find it unlikely, but I hope neither Galino nor Sam Elliott’s character are relegated to scenes far from the primary characters.
Landman’s Jacob Lofland On Filming In The Texas Heat
Despite everyone involved in the production enjoying their camaraderie as Season 2 progresses, Jacob Lofland, who plays Cooper Norris, highlighted a particular challenge of shooting this series in Texas during the spring and summer – a point he made explicitly.
We’re kind of slowing down a touch to keep from having heatstrokes.
Hailing from either Louisiana or Texas all my life, I can surely attest to the discomfort of spending time outdoors during our scorching summer seasons. Although Texas may not be as persistently humid as Louisiana, the humidity factor becomes almost irrelevant when one has drenched through multiple garments due to sweat. Thus, I’m relieved to learn that measures are being implemented, because heat strokes are no laughing matter.
Fortunately, it seems the heat isn’t bad enough to sway people’s views on the scripts written for Season 2. Lofland gave them particularly glowing compliments when he said:
Fortunately, it appears that the heat isn’t interfering with people’s opinions regarding the scripts penned for Season 2. In fact, Lofland went so far as to shower them with high praise by saying:
The new episodes are remarkably captivating, much like the first ones. You’ll find Taylor’s scripts, and it feels just like diving into a novel you simply can’t stop reading.
As a devoted fan, I’m eagerly hoping that the upcoming seasons will give more screen time to Demi Moore’s character, Cami. She was somewhat overlooked in the initial season as Monty’s wife, played by Jon Hamm. Now that Monty is gone, it’s my hope that Cami gets a chance to truly shine and make an impact. However, let’s keep her brilliance under control, not wanting it to outshine even the Texas sun, or we might just find ourselves wrapping up production prematurely.
