“Landman” has been renewed for Season 2 at Paramount+, EbMaster has learned.
The television series produced by Taylor Sheridan, featuring Billy Bob Thornton, takes place in the oil-rich regions of West Texas and first aired on Paramount+ in November. The season concluded in January with its final episode.
The television program garnered favorable responses from viewers when it debuted. As per Nielsen’s streaming statistics, it placed eighth among the top 10 SVOD originals for Q4 2024. Moreover, Paramount reported that it held the record for the most-watched global premieres and finales of any series on their platform, Paramount+. Additionally, Thornton secured a nomination for the Golden Globe Award in the best actor category for a drama series, due to his performance in the show.
Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks, commented that ‘Landman’ was one of the standout shows of the year due to Taylor Sheridan’s exceptional talent for capturing the pulse of the times. By blending Neo-western motifs of self-reliance, aspiration, and working-class battles with contemporary discussions about energy, climate change, and economic expansion, the series resonated deeply with audiences. The show has significantly contributed to the success of Paramount+, ranking it as the second most popular SVOD (Streaming Video on Demand) service in the US for Original Hours Watched in Q4, along with other hit shows such as ‘Tulsa King,’ ‘The Agency,’ ‘Lioness,’ and ‘Dexter: Original Sin.’
For Season 1 of the series, Thornton was joined by a star-studded cast that included Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore.
The series draws inspiration from the “Boomtown” podcast produced by Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly, and can be characterized as an exploration of the lives of oilfield workers and wealthy oil tycoons whose actions are driving a massive expansion that’s not only altering our environment, economy, and international politics but also shaping our world.
Sheridan and Christian Wallace jointly developed the series, with both of them also acting as top-level producers. Other executive producers include David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Thornton, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, Stephen Kay, Dan Friedkin, and Jason Hoch from Imperative Entertainment, and J.K. Nickell and Megan Creydt from Texas Monthly. Tommy Turtle holds the position of co-executive producer.
