In the upcoming ninth episode titled ‘WolfCamp’, Landman is wrapping things up, and a significant setback will occur, altering the course of events for Tommy and the oil industry as we know it (Caution: significant plot twists follow!).

In Episode 8 of Landman, Monty experienced a significant setback when he had another heart attack, making it his fifth one according to the show. Simultaneously, Tommy was grappling with the revelation that Cooper and Ariana were essentially dating. Furthermore, Ainsley was deepening her relationship with her new boyfriend, Ryder.

However, there are looming issues at hand. Rebecca’s behavior is becoming increasingly confrontational, potentially harmful to herself. Moreover, the cartel remains a persistent threat to Tommy following the plane incident. To add to this, the recent episode of Landman concluded with the National Guard accidentally firing upon some of their messengers.

In Episode 9 of Taylor Sheridan’s drama series, we find ourselves continuing from where we last were, skillfully laying the groundwork for a thrilling conclusion.

The cartel’s threats continue in Landman Episode 9

Episode 9 opens with Tommy receiving a heated phone call from his National Guard contact, scolding him for an earlier incident where they unintentionally hit a driver during a training exercise. Yet, Tommy clarifies that they were actually smugglers, and assures him, “I’ll give them a call, the situation will be resolved.

In the meantime, Jiminez receives a call from Tommy, suggesting they go back to handling their individual tasks without interfering in one another’s business.

Additionally, he shares the view that the land has become too troublesome for the cartel to operate there anymore. Yet, Jimenez expresses his desire to meet Tommy directly, implying this request with a subtle warning hidden within his words.

In another location, Angela and Ainsley briefly stop en route to the gym at a gentlemen’s club. As the activities coordinator for a retirement home, she plans to expose them to a light version of nightlife through a field trip. The owner consents, but on the condition that they bring their own male entertainer.

Tommy visits Monty in the hospital

Tommy makes his way to the hospital to check on Monty, who’s currently recuperating. Upon arrival, he encounters Cami in the waiting area and offers her consolation for a moment before proceeding. Inside, he runs into Jerry Jones conversing with Monty about his past achievements that led to his wealth. The message Jerry imparts is straightforward: Monty should devote more time to his loved ones.

After Monty leaves, he focuses on Tommy instead. He informs him that he’ll soon retire from work due to needing a third bypass surgery. Additionally, he elevates Tommy to the position of Vice President of Operations. “You’re already handling the tasks,” he explains to Tommy, “so you might as well have the title.

Despite Tommy’s objections, there’s an unexpected twist: Monty informs him that Rebecca will be appointed a permanent staff member, moving into the position of Vice President of Exploration. As he leaves the hospital, Tommy asks Cami to verify if Monty will indeed carry out his plans to scale back operations.

After being shaken by the visit, Tommy calls Angela and tells her he loves her.

Another family dinner gone wrong

Later in the day, Ariana arrives home to find Cooper there. Despite not being fully healed from his attack, he attempts to help with the groceries, only to injure himself in the process. Upon entering, he settles down at his laptop, engrossed in some clandestine project. When he brings up their shared future, Ariana becomes evasive, urging him to concentrate on his personal life for the time being.

It’s evident that she’s hesitant about leaning on him extensively. However, he maintains that he cares for her deeply and desires their relationship. Following a short pause due to a salesperson, they began to passionately kiss on the sofa.

That night, Tommy arrives home and is met straightaway by an angry Nate, upset over Rebecca’s recent promotion. Despite Tommy’s efforts to calm him down, it’s evident that this issue isn’t resolved yet. Meanwhile, Tommy discovers Ryder with Ainsley upstair, engrossed in what seems like a “bible study” meeting, which could potentially be more than just a study session.

Essentially, Ainsley is attempting to persuade him into taking up the part of a stripper at the senior citizens’ home. However, he’s hesitant, and their discussions about it are abruptly halted when Tommy calls them downstairs for dinner.

At the dining table, Angela and Tommy engage in a dispute about the proper method of consuming her paella. Upon entering the room with dishes, she exits in a fit of rage. He locates her outside and they have a heartfelt, candid conversation: he urges her to cease performing for approval, while he yearns for a straightforward life after a tiring day’s work.

When they’re not looking, Ainsley and Ryder quietly make their way up the stairs. There, Ainsley proposes that he dance with her, and in return, she promises to become more friendly towards him.

Rest in peace, Monty Miller

On that particular night, Ariana stirs awake to discover Cooper once again seated before his computer. This time, he’s engrossed in a map depicting the Wolfcamp Shale, renowned as the most productive oil field globally.

The location is costly and inconvenient for drilling due to the necessity of horizontal drilling or fracking methods, with depths reaching as much as 10,000 feet. His strategy involves purchasing smaller parcels of land for leasing purposes and later reselling them. His ambition is to ascend to the position of an oil CEO.

Meanwhile, I’m gripped with a sense of despair as I witness turmoil unfolding elsewhere. In the hospital, my heart races alongside Monty’s, his heart rate climbing higher and higher. He pushes the call button, but it seems no one is responding, leaving us both alone in this moment of dire need.

The following day, Tommy awoke to discover that Angela had departed earlier for her excursion to the strip club with the elderly group. Following the commotion caused by Nate and Dale reacting to the women tossing away their less-than-nutritious meals, Tommy stepped outside.

He gets a call from Cami. From the look on his face, it’s seems as though Monty is dead.

Simultaneously, Cooper arrives at a modest farm and locates its owner within a barn. He proposes a deal to the farmer, as his oil lease ended in 1997, he wishes to purchase this lease from him. This initial step is part of Cooper’s strategy to acquire smaller, more challenging drilling sites. The farmer seems to approve, referring to Cooper as “an honest man in the business.

Tommy, rattled by the news of his long-time friend’s passing, finds himself in his yard. From a distance, he observes a wolf, but tragically, his neighbor ends up shooting it due to accusations that the wolf had been preying on domestic animals.
