LaLiga Studios, Little Spain Team on First Drama Series Set in Spain’s Top Soccer Division

As a movie lover with a deep appreciation for both Spanish and American cinema, I am thrilled to learn about this exciting new collaboration between LaLiga Studios and Little Spain. The fusion of Spanish professional football and storytelling is an intriguing concept that has the potential to captivate audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.

Partnership between Banijay Iberia and Spain’s top soccer league, LaLiga Studios, has sealed a deal with C Tangana’s production company, Little Spain, to create a fiction series within the La Liga realm. This will mark the initial drama project based on La Liga’s intellectual property. As per the companies, it is also the first such production to carry “the official endorsement of a competition of this scale and influence.”

In a recent announcement, Little Spain shared some initial insights about their upcoming project: “Our goal is to develop a story centered around Spanish professional soccer and the unique quirks of La Liga teams. This collaboration with actor Josh Hutcherson marks an exciting new step for us, as it presents an opportunity to explore a narrative situated between Spain and the US. For this production, we’ll focus on evoking strong emotions and showcasing our distinctive cinematic style to bring the little-known football world to life.”

Since its founding in 2017, the small artistic collective named Little Spain has primarily focused on creating music videos. In just a few short years, the company has experienced remarkable growth. Recently, they achieved great success by winning three Gold Lions at the prestigious Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for C Tangana’s anthem for the RC Celta La Liga EA Sports team. Additionally, Little Spain produced the documentary “Esta ambición desmedida” (“This Excessive Ambition”), which received a nomination for the 2023 Spanish Academy Goya award. Moreover, Tangana’s upcoming directorial debut, “La guitarra flamenca de yerai cortés,” is set to be screened at this year’s New Directors competition at the San Sebastian Festival.

Last year, Chalo Bonifacino Cooke headed LaLiga Studios, a collaboration between Banijay Iberia and Spain’s leading men’s football league, La Liga. The partnership between LaLiga Studios and Little Spain, as stated by the organization, represents Banijay’s determination to grow its sports entertainment sector via fresh alliances, content financing, and mergers or acquisitions following the unveiling of Banijay Sports.

“Bonifacino expressed excitement about the chance to create an original fiction series that can authentically tap into La Liga’s intellectual property, including its teams, stars, venues, and supporters, bringing a level of realism seldom seen in football-themed stories.”

Over the past year, LaLiga Studios has produced audiovisual content for La Liga, its teams, and major sponsors. This content has reached over 100 television providers and been transmitted to approximately 190 different nations.

The company not only focuses on conventional productions but also intends to lead the way in sports entertainment. To achieve this, LaLiga Studios recently finalized a partnership with MTP, formerly Mandalay Sports Media in Hollywood, for creating soccer-centric content. This endeavor is being spearheaded by Mike Tollin, an executive producer of the globally successful Netflix documentary “The Last Dance.”

In March 2023, LaLiga Studios, Banijay Iberia, and Little Spain collaborated to create the anthem “1voiceVSRACISM.” This tune was played in all La Liga EA Sports and Hypermotion stadiums during the observance of the World Day Against Racial Discrimination.
