Lainey Wilson to Make Feature Film Debut in Colleen Hoover’s ‘Reminders of Him’ for Universal (EXCLUSIVE)

Country music sensation Lainey Wilson, fresh off her Grammy win, will be making her first foray into feature film acting with Universal’s movie adaptation of the hit book “Reminders of Him,” penned by Colleen Hoover.

Wilson is set to be part of an ensemble featuring Maika Monroe, Tyriq Withers, Rudy Pankow, Lauren Graham, Bradley Whitford, and Nicholas Duvernay.

Previously, the nation’s top-tier musician has an existing association with Universal Music, following her submission of the original track “Out of Oklahoma” to the hit movie “Twisters” last year. This song garnered numerous award nominations, such as from the Guild of Music Supervisors and the Society of Composers and Lyricists. Furthermore, the complete soundtrack, which peaked at No.1 on Billboard’s country charts, was also recognized with a Grammy nomination.

Vanessa Caswill will take charge as director for the upcoming movie titled “Reminders of Him.” The screenplay was penned by Hoover and Lauren Levine, who are also involved in producing the film through their company Heartbones Entertainment. Gina Matthews is producing it via her production house Little Engine Productions. Robin Fisichella serves as executive producer. Christine Sun, the director of production development for the studio, will supervise the project.

As a cinephile, I eagerly anticipate immersing myself in a heartrending and transformative cinematic journey titled, “A Tale of Motherhood, Forgiveness, and the Power of Love’s Healing Grace.” This story revolves around me, Kenna Rowan (Monroe), stepping back into my old town after a five-year prison stint due to an unforeseen tragedy. My longing to rekindle my bond with my young daughter is met with resistance by everyone, but the local bar owner, Ledger Ward (Withers), stands as the sole exception, gradually weaving himself into my life’s tapestry. Intriguingly, Scotty Landry (Pankow) graces the screen as my first love and my daughter’s late father.

The novel titled “Reminders of Him,” released in 2022, has achieved global success with over 6.5 million copies sold worldwide and translations into 45 languages. In a fierce competition for the book rights, Universal Studios secured the victory and is set to debut the movie adaptation in theaters on February 13, 2026, just before Valentine’s Day.

One of Hoover’s bestsellers, “Reminders of Him,” is currently being adapted for screen: her hit novel “It Ends With Us” was turned into a successful movie featuring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, generating an impressive $344 million globally. Directed by Baldoni, the Sony film proved to be highly profitable, earning more than its $25 million budget. Following this is “Verity,” set to premiere on Amazon MGM Studios with Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett in lead roles. This psychological thriller is scheduled for a wide theater release on May 15, 2026.
