In a humorous twist, Lady Gaga poked fun at some of her less glamorous career events in her latest appearance on “Saturday Night Live”. She jested about R. Kelly’s unexpected cameo during her previous hosting stint and got laughs for the rough response to “Joker: Folie à Deux” – a movie notorious for its poor reception.
I’m thrilled to be back on ‘SNL,’ a place I last hosted in 2013. To my delight, my entire performance has held up exceptionally well over time. As I started an anxious jig, Gaga added, ‘There’s no need to search for ‘SNL 2013 Lady Gaga featuring R. Kelly.’ I’d rather not revisit that!’ You may recall, they collaborated years before R. Kelly faced charges and convictions for racketeering and sex trafficking.
Straight away, Gaga shifted the conversation towards her recent resurgence in screen acting. This has been marked by acclaimed roles in “A Star Is Born” and “House of Gucci.” However, she also acknowledged her most recent on-screen portrayal: that of Lee Quinzel, a take on the “Batman” villain Harley Quinn, in last autumn’s financially flopped and heavily criticized sequel to Joaquin Phoenix’s “Joker,” titled “Joker: Folie à Deux.
Well, I’ve made a transition into acting now and have been quite meticulous in choosing roles that highlight my abilities as a serious actor, like potentially ‘Joker 2.’ This seemed to spark some curiosity from the audience, and when I mentioned this, there were chuckles of approval. Apparently, many found it intriguing.
Joaquin and I were both nominated for a Razzie award, which is given for the worst movies of the year. We ended up winning the category for ‘Worst Screen Duo.’ Gaga added, “They got the last laugh though, as I adore receiving awards! My Razzie takes me one step closer to an EGORT. It’s similar to an EGOT, but with a bit of a sting.” (EGOT stands for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony – a term used for artists who have won all four prestigious awards in the entertainment industry)
Gaga began her monologue by acknowledging the time that has elapsed since her last hosting stint on Studio 8H: “The last time I hosted SNL, I was 27. Now, at 38, I’m right in the sweet spot for a female pop star, according to science. Most pop stars are past 40. Chappell Roan is 58. Charli XCX is 75. Tate McRae is older than my biological grandmother.
Lady Gaga is set to host “Saturday Night Live” for the second time, following her first stint in 2013. Additionally, she’ll be the musical performer this week, showcasing tracks from her seventh album “Mayhem,” which was released this week. Notably, this will not be Gaga’s first time as an “SNL” musical guest; she has graced the stage four times before this occasion.
