The enigma surrounding Cordelia Cupp’s curiosity has been unraveled: What was the secret behind “The Residence,” a series brimming with Kylie Minogue allusions, that managed to persuade the Pop Princess to participate? As Shonda Rhimes admitted, there was uncertainty about whether it would come together. The solution is surprisingly straightforward: All it took was a conversation with Minogue. In an interview with Variety, showrunner Paul William Davies disclosed that they simply presented the project to the pop star, and she found the show intriguing. “For being Kylie,” Davies remarked, “she’s a very approachable, down-to-earth person who thought it would be enjoyable.” Davies added, “I was like, ‘Whatever you can do or are willing to do, I’ll write for you.’ So I wrote more because she was game.” Minogue portrays herself in the series, initially a dinner guest who steps into the limelight after Harry Styles backs out. Later, she becomes a murder suspect following White House chief usher A.B. Wynter’s (Giancarlo Esposito) untimely demise at the party. It’s hard to forget Minogue’s charm, particularly when she’s ready for fun and games.
