As a long-time admirer of Kristen Stewart‘s versatility as an actress, I can hardly contain my excitement about her directorial debut, “The Chronology of Water.” This film is more than just another project for Stewart; it’s a passion project she’s nurtured since 2018. Her determination to bring this story to life, even going so far as to threaten retirement if necessary, speaks volumes about her commitment and dedication.
At long last, we get our first glimpse into Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut, titled “The Chronology of Water.
Up top, you see an Oscar-nominated actor alongside Imogen Poots, who portrays Lidia Yuknavitch – the author – in a movie based on her 2011 bestselling autobiography with the same title.
The movie’s official summary describes it as a story exploring the transformation of painful experiences into creative expression. It chronicles Lidia’s life journey, from her earliest recollections in the Pacific Northwest, through tumultuous events, near-born children, harmful relationships, artistic mentors, victories and defeats.
The movie “sails through Lidia’s recollections as she strives to establish herself as a proficient author, reclaiming her personal narrative by penning one that aligns with her life,” further explains the synopsis. “‘The Chronology of Water’ delves deeply into themes of sexuality, creativity, and provides an unwavering gaze at the gritty realities of being female, offering a tender portrayal of the emotional lexicon of adolescence.
Alongside Andy Mingo, Stewart not only took charge of the film’s direction but also contributed to writing its script. The ensemble features Thora Birch, Earl Cave, Michael Epp, Susannah Flood, Kim Gordon, and Jim Belushi.
For years, “The Chronology of Water” has been a deeply personal endeavor for Stewart. Back in 2018, the actor first disclosed its creation. More recently, in an interview for EbMaster’s cover story in January, she shared that she would hold off on making another film until the completion of “The Chronology of Water.
I’m determined to bring this film project to life before venturing into any other collaborations,” she asserted. “In fact, I might take a break from the industry. I won’t initiate another production until I’ve completed this one, and I can assure you of that. I believe this move will kick-start everything.
After a six-week shoot in Latvia and Malta, the production of ‘The Chronology of Water’ officially concluded in July.
The movie was produced by Charles Gillibert from CG Cinema International, Yulia Zayceva, Max Pavlov, and Svetlana Punte from Forma Pro Films, Michael Pruss and Rebecca Feuer from Scott Free, Stewart, Maggie McLean, and Dylan Meyer from Nevermind Pictures, as well as Mingo. Additionally, it was made in collaboration with Scott Aharoni, Alihan Yalcindag, and Sinan Eczacibasi from Curious Gremlin; Christian Vesper from Fremantle; Yan Vizinberg, Abigail Honor, and Chris Cooper from Lorem Ipsum Entertainment; and Mélanie Biessy from Scala Films.
In terms of global distribution, “The Chronology of Water” is being handled by Les Films du Losange who oversee international sales and French distribution. On the other hand, WME Independent manages North American sales for this publication.
Stewart is repped by WME, and Poots is repped by WME, Entertainment 360 and B-Side Management.
