‘Krapopolis’ Renewed For Season 4, Fox and Dan Harmon Announce at Comic-Con (EXCLUSIVE)

As a dedicated movie and TV lover with a soft spot for animated shows, I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear that “Krapopolis” has been renewed for a fourth season! This mythical comedy set in ancient Greece has quickly become one of my favorite new discoveries, and I’ve been eagerly following its journey since its first Emmy nomination at Comic-Con.

Following the initial Emmy recognition, Fox has ordered additional episodes for “Krapopolis,” the ancient Greek animated comedy series created by Dan Harmon. This announcement was made during Comic-Con International in San Diego on Thursday to an excited fanbase.

Harmon, along with executive producers Steve Levy and Alex Rubens (who additionally serves as the showrunner), shared updates on the series’ renewal and provided insights into how the show has evolved over its first two seasons. They also hinted at what lies ahead for viewers in the upcoming episodes.

Producers were thrilled to learn that actress Hannah Waddingham has been nominated for this year’s Emmys in the exceptional voice-over performance category for her role as Deliria. Notably, her Emmy-submitted episode was titled “Big Man on Hippocampus”.

“The animated series ‘Krapopolis’ is set in ancient Greece of mythology and portrays the lives of a chaotic blend of humans, gods, and monsters as they attempt to establish the world’s first civilizations, all while avoiding mutual destruction.”

“At the San Diego Comic-Con, the perfect venue for ‘Krap’ enthusiasts, Fox TV president Michael Thorn announced that another installment of ‘Krapopolis’ is forthcoming. This exciting news was shared by none other than our gifted creator and executive producer, Dan Harmon.”

In the voice ensemble, we have Richard Ayoade (“The IT Crowd”) portraying Tyrannis, the mortal offspring of a goddess; Hannah Waddingham (“Ted Lasso”) bringing Deliria, Tyrannis’ mother and the deity of self-destruction and doubtful decisions, to life; Matt Berry (“What We Do In the Shadows”) voicing Shlub, Tyrannis’ father who is a fusion of centaur and manticore; Pam Murphy (“Mapleworth Murders”) lending her voice to Stupendous, Tyrannis’ cyclops half-sister; and Duncan Trussell (“The Midnight Gospel”) voicing Hippocampus, Tyrannis’ mermaid half-brother.

The pickup is announced as “Krapopolis,” Fox’s new show premieres this coming Sunday, September 29th, at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

The journey to the first broadcast of “Krapopolis” on Fox last September was a lengthy one. Initially planned for a November 2022 debut, the show made an early appearance at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022. However, its premiere was postponed, and it was unexpectedly renewed for a second season in March 2023. The series was then scheduled to air in May 2023 but got pushed back again due to Hollywood strikes, ultimately premiering as original fall programming.

The animated show “Krapopolis” made its debut in September with impressive viewership numbers. This success was likely due to the strong lead-in from football and it being the first new scripted series of the fall season. Notably, it became the most-watched entertainment program of the week, marking the first instance an animated series had held this title during the season since “Family Guy” premiered in 1999.

In her critique of the new show, Alison Herman from EbMaster wrote that “Krapopolis” is a “humorous and inventive take on the family sitcom, loosely based in ancient Greece… The potential of this series lies in its adaptable structure, offering a large cast of secondary characters, and the strong ensemble chosen to bring it to life. Compared to Fox’s established animation roster, Harmon seems more comfortable here than he ever did on NBC’s prime-time lineup.”

Harmon, known for his work on “Rick and Morty” and “Community,” developed “Krapopolis” under his animation contract with Fox Entertainment. The series is owned by Fox Entertainment, produced by their subsidiary Bento Box Entertainment, and distributed worldwide by Fox Entertainment Global.
