Fans of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic can breathe a sigh of relief—the RPG remake is still in development. After announcement regarding work on Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 3, there were voices on the internet suggesting that perhaps the Saber Interactive studio has abandoned some of its previously announced projects to fully focus on the new title. However, these doubts were dispelled by Tim Willits, the COO of SI, who confirmed that all announced games, including of course KotOR, are still being developed.
KotOR wasn’t canceled
In response to the rumors, Willits released a statement on X, assuring that Saber Interactive has not left any of its games behind:
Saber Interactive is one of the largest independent studios in the world. We are working on numerous games across many different genres. Everything that we have talked about is still in development. We will share information on upcoming games when we have something cool to share.
This statement might be especially important for KotOR fans, as since Saber assumed full responsibility for the project in 2022, there has not been much information about the game. While it might still take a while for the game to reach store shelves, there is now hope that we might soon see the first specific materials (at least that’s what some commentators anticipate from Willits’ post).
False rumors
A few days ago, a rumor started circulating on the internet about the alleged cancellation of KotOR. Its author was Alex Smith – a former developer at Bend Studios and co-creator of the Syphon Filter series, who doesn’t have a very good reputation as an industry insider. Moreover, during the announcement of Space Marine 3, Smith took the opportunity to “substantiate” his rumor, writing that Saber studio wants to fully focus on the new title.
So, if SI isn’t just putting on a brave face, these reports can be deemed false, since the company’s official stance clearly contradicts them. This is not the first time that Smith has published unverified information, so it’s worth approaching his revelations with great caution.
Recent updates we shared were about reassurances from Saber Interactive’s CEO, Matthew Karch, regarding the game’s development. After parting ways with Embracer Group, Saber Interactive took full control over the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake project. Notably, Karch expressed confidence that fans should not be concerned, and the remake will surpass their expectations. Let’s remain optimistic!
