As a passionate cinephile, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride when I hear that Korea will be the Country of Honor at the Banff World Media Festival in 2025. This recognition underscores the significant impact Korean entertainment has made on a global scale.
The acknowledgment arises amidst Korean content’s ongoing global ascendancy within the entertainment sphere. Specifically, the 46th festival will highlight South Korea’s artistic abilities from June 8-11 at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel in Alberta, Canada.
Jenn Kuzmyk, the executive director of BANFF, expressed great excitement to designate Korea as our first ‘Honorary Country.’ Korea has proven itself as a dominant force in international entertainment, captivating viewers globally with its groundbreaking storytelling and top-notch productions.
The collaboration with the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) is set to bring an elite group of Korean content creators, influencers, and decision-makers to the Canadian Rockies. Yoo-Hyun-seok, KOCCA’s acting president, highlighted the importance of this alliance, stating that Korea’s participation at BANFF underscores the worldwide allure of K-content. He expressed eagerness to display the richness and variety of their creative sector while forging valuable partnerships aimed at shaping the entertainment industry’s future.
During the entire festival schedule, K-content will take center stage, reaching its peak with a special tribute at the Rockie Awards ceremony on June 9th. This tribute aims to honor South Korea’s significant influence on global media.
The festival – a top venue for media industry professionals, offering around 1,200 networking opportunities and arranging over 25,000 meetings – acknowledged the significant contributions of Esther Song from Song Group and Jeniffer Kim, a board member at Banff Television Festival Foundation, in making this project successful.
2021’s BANFF event will feature key speakers like Anjali Sud, CEO of Tubi, and Keith Le Goy, chair of Sony Pictures Television. As industry titans convene amidst the stunning Canadian Rockies, they aim to establish connections and ignite fresh collaborations in television, digital media, and beyond.
