As a movie enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the silver screen, I must admit that the Korean box office is currently a sight to behold. The latest installment of “I, The Executioner” continues to dominate, with its unique blend of comedy, crime, and thriller genres striking a chord with audiences.
The Korean crime-comedy-thriller “I, The Executioner,” a follow-up to the 2015 success ‘Veteran,’ remains number one at the South Korean box office. In its third weekend, it raked in $3.03 million, surpassing the debut of “Transformers One.
In terms of market dominance, the movie titled “I, The Executioner” holds a 53% share as per Kobis data, a service run by the Korean Film Council (Kofic). Over the past weekend, its earnings increased, bringing its total box office collection to approximately $47 million since its September 13 release. This places it as the fourth highest-grossing film of the year in Korea, trailing behind “Exhuma,” “The Roundup: Punishment,” and “Inside Out 2,” which continues to lead with a substantial $64 million in earnings.
As a movie enthusiast, I was thrilled to see “Transformers One” kick off with a staggering $917,000 between its opening weekend, securing a impressive 16% market share, as reported by Kobis. Over the course of its five-day debut, it raked in an impressive $1.43 million. Interestingly, the re-released “Begin Again” held its ground, earning $269,000 over the weekend, bringing its total, including its initial 2014 run, to a staggering $21 million and above.
Heartsping: Tiny Whispers of Love solidified its position as the highest-grossing animated film ever made within the Krean realm, raking in another $211,000 over the weekend. This brings its total earnings to an impressive $7.83 million since its release on August 3rd.
I found myself in the fifth spot on the revenue list, even though my local charts indicated a tenth-place standing. This was primarily because of lower ticket sale figures. The film in question was “Jung Kook I Am Still,” a concert production by fellow BTS member Jung Kook.
Titles like these had little effect on the charts. One of them was “The Birth of the Bread Star from Bread Barbershop,” which earned $130,000 but only contributed to a total of $1.3 million in sales.
