Hideo Kojima, the creator behind many acclaimed games, is currently working on several new projects, including a horror game called OD. While details are scarce, a recent trailer called “Knock” left fans with more mysteries than solutions. Kojima has now stated that OD is intended to be a fresh and unique experience, though many game developers make similar claims about their upcoming titles.
Interestingly, Kojima shared with ananweb (as translated by Automaton) that he isn’t certain if his concept for OD will actually be successful.
I’m not ready to reveal exactly what we’re working on, or if it will be successful. We’ve made innovative games like Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding – unique in their gameplay, but built on familiar game systems. This new project is different; we’re completely rethinking how the game will be offered as a service, which will be a big challenge. We’ve included lots of clues in the trailer, so keep watching and you might be able to guess what it is.
OD was first revealed two years ago at The Game Awards 2023. The game stars Hunter Schafer, Sophia Lillis, and the late Udo Kier, who sadly passed away in November at the age of 81. Hideo Kojima explained that the recent SAG-AFTRA strike, which concluded in July 2025, caused filming for OD to be delayed until 2026. It’s currently unknown how much of Udo Kier’s performance was captured before his death.
Kojima expressed his ambition to travel the world, exploring spooky locations with the goal of being the first to scan a ghost and incorporate it into one of his games. He even joked that he’d like to win an award for achieving this.
Operation: Dragon (OD) is being developed with Xbox. When Microsoft recently reduced its Xbox workforce and cancelled several games, people worried OD might be affected. Thankfully, the game is still in development and on track.
Hideo Kojima has a lot on his plate! In addition to developing a new game called Physint with PlayStation, he’s collaborating with A24 to create a Death Stranding movie and working with Disney on an animated series based on the same game.
