Knicks player is guaranteed an NBA Finals ring no matter who wins

Even before the NBA Finals begin, one player on the New York Knicks has already secured a championship ring, no matter who wins the series.

After a thrilling NBA season, the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs will face off to compete for the championship trophy.

The championship series begins on Thursday, June 4th. And regardless of the outcome, Jeremy Sochan is already guaranteed a championship ring – assuming he wants one.

Jeremy Sochan is already guaranteed an NBA ring after playing for Knicks and Spurs this season

Jeremy Sochan began the season playing for the Spurs. Although he’d been performing well since joining the team in 2022 and had a good connection with Victor Wembanyama, he lost his regular spot in the lineup later in the season.

The Spurs were unable to trade Jeremy Sochan before the February deadline, so they released him, making him available to any team. The Knicks quickly signed him after that.

NBA Finals rules state that anyone who played for a championship team during the season receives a ring. Since Jeremy Sochan played for both teams this year, he’s guaranteed to get one no matter who wins.

There are a couple of potential hurdles, though. First, the Spurs would need to be willing to include a championship ring in any deal. Considering his successful time with the team, it’s likely they would be open to that.

Jeremy Sochan would also need to agree to the deal. A similar situation happened in 2016 when Anderson Varejao left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Golden State Warriors. Although the Cavaliers won the NBA championship, Varejao turned down the championship ring they offered him.
