As a hardcore gamer who has spent countless hours playing NBA2K since its inception, I must say that the ratings for this year’s edition leave me utterly baffled – particularly when it comes to my beloved New York Knicks.
The much-anticipated 25th installment in the renowned NBA2K video game franchise, 2K25, has just been released, allowing basketball enthusiasts worldwide to strap on their sneakers and join their favorite NBA athletes on the court. However, supporters of the New York Knicks might find themselves disheartened by the evaluations assigned to some of their beloved players, particularly standout guard Jalen Brunson. Did the game creators underestimate Brunson’s abilities? What about other key Knicks players like Mikal Bridges? Let’s delve deeper into this matter.
Jalen Brunson’s rating (93) is downright disrespectful
Last season, Jalen Brunson demonstrated he’s one of the versatile players in the NBA, and that assessment seems quite underestimated. Brunson is a player the Knicks trust to generate opportunities both for himself and his teammates, particularly when the game gets tough or the flow breaks down.
Disregard any opinions you may have encountered regarding the Knicks being overrated, Brunson being a second-round draft pick, or players who spent more than a year in college not becoming NBA superstars. Similarly, ignore speculation about Dallas Mavericks allowing him to leave as a free agent. In essence, these points hold no significance.
As a devoted fan, I must say Brunson has surpassed the ordinary. He’s ascended to the NBA stage, making a grand entrance as a bona fide superstar. He’s not merely an exceptional shooter, though he truly is one. He’s far more than that. He’s a player who can step onto the court, demand the ball, and deliver clutch points for his team whenever it suits him.
Occasionally, it appears as if Brunson is playing a chess match with his defenders, feigning vulnerability to trick them into thinking they might snatch a steal or block his shot. Instead, he leaves them bewildered by changing direction swiftly, or creating room with a well-timed step back, and then, in an instant, sinks a jumper right before their eyes. He takes delight in making his opponent feel powerless and realizes that they can do little to hinder him or slow him down at all. On the court, Brunson is a relentless competitor, and it’s evident that he deserves a higher ranking.
Mikal Bridges (84) should be a 90 because of his two-way dominance
At both ends of the court, Bridges is an indispensable asset, yet his rating appears laughably low considering his team’s benefits from his play. The Knicks are counting on Bridges to perform optimally for them to excel this season, and it’s evident that they hold him in high regard. There’s a compelling explanation behind the front office agreeing to relinquish a significant trade deal this off-season just to secure Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets.
Mickey Mouse complements OG Anunoby exceptionally well, causing trouble for opposing teams. Although they share similar playing styles, Mickey is generally considered superior, and there’s a strong argument for him earning a rating in the low 90s. While Mickey might not be deserving of Brunson’s 93, a minimum rating of 90 would be fair, with a 91 or 92 more accurately reflecting his contributions to the Knicks on the court, considering all that he offers.
Player “Bridges” is a versatile scorer, capable of generating opportunities both individually and in collaboration with teammates. He’s also an exceptional marksman from long range, consistently sinking three-point shots. His shooting technique features a high release point, making it challenging for defenders to obstruct his attempts at the basket, as his shot is graceful and hard to block.
Originally drafted for his potential as a three-point shooter and defensive player, but lacking in isolation scoring abilities, Bridges has surpassed initial expectations by becoming a credible scoring option and key playmaker for his team. He displayed solid statistics with good efficiency while spearheading the Nets’ offense, suggesting he could excel further in a supporting role with the Knicks. While this evaluation may not fully capture his skills, Bridges is renowned for his exceptional scoring capabilities and top-tier defensive prowess.
OG Anunoby (84) is underrated
In many aspects, Anunoby and Bridges share quite a few similarities. While Anunoby has a slight edge in athleticism, he might not be as skilled compared to Bridges. Both players are excellent choices, and the Knicks are fortunate to have both on their roster. Some might argue that Bridges’ rating should be a couple of points higher than Anunoby’s, but they both deserve ratings that are noticeably better than their current ones. A rating of 88 or 89 seems fair for either player, and an 90 could be justified if one has high expectations for Anunoby’s performance.
Julius Randle (85) might be a little overrated
If you prioritize statistical performance, Julius Randle is your top choice, and an 83/84 rating seems fitting for him. Yet, it’s important to consider other aspects of basketball beyond just counting stats. While Randle excels in scoring, he occasionally plays inefficiently and may focus too much on individual play, which can diminish his teammates’ involvement. This rating is reasonable, though some might argue it could be slightly higher due to his strong points. In summary, Randle offers impressive statistics but requires improvement in terms of overall gameplay.
