Kit Harington Can’t Watch ‘House of the Dragon’ After Spending ‘Too Long’ on ‘Game of Thrones,’ Says a Prequel Is ‘More Natural’ Than His Axed Jon Snow Sequel

As a devoted fan of Kit Harington‘s captivating portrayal of Jon Snow in “Game of Thrones,” I find his decision to steer clear from the prequel series, “House of the Dragon,” both understandable and somewhat melancholic. After eight seasons immersed in the intricate world of Westeros, it’s no wonder he feels a bit like a student refusing to attend their school reunion.

Actor Kit Harington, known for his role as Jon Snow in “Game of Thrones” on HBO, spent eight seasons in the world of Westeros from 2011 to 2019, but it seems he’s had enough for the moment. Recently, he expressed to the Associated Press that he can’t bring himself to watch the “Thrones” prequel series “House of the Dragon,” which has just completed its second season. The show has already been renewed for a third season and there are plans for a fourth and final season as well.

“Kit Harington expressed that he can’t bring himself to watch ‘House of the Dragon’, having spent so much time in ‘Game of Thrones’. He wishes the new series all the best and has heard great things about it. However, he doesn’t envision watching either show for a while.”

Harington isn’t the sole “Thrones” cast member opting out of watching “House of the Dragon.” In fact, Emilia Clarke, known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen, expressed last year that she finds it impossible to watch. She shared this sentiment with EbMaster.

She expressed her bewilderment, repeating, “It’s so odd, it’s so unusual, it’s so peculiar.” This is similar to asking someone, “Would you like to attend a school reunion that isn’t from your year? You’d go to that school reunion? That’s the feeling I get. I’m trying to steer clear of it.”

Actor Kit Harington had been contemplating a comeback to the world of Westeros for a new series focusing on Jon Snow, however, it was announced earlier this year that the plan has been put on hold.

At present, I can’t express my enthusiasm enough as we haven’t discovered the perfect narrative yet, which excites us all equally, for a spinoff to materialize. Consequently, we’ve chosen to suspend work on it temporarily. However, there may come a time in the future when we pick up those tools again, but for now, it’s safely tucked away. In other words, it’s not happening right now, and it’s resting comfortably on the shelf.

“The final chapter of ‘Game of Thrones’ saw Jon Snow departing Westeros, accompanied by his direwolf Ghost and the Wildlings, venturing into the Haunted Forest to forge a new path in life. Some viewers anticipated that a subsequent series would delve into Jon’s adventures with the Wildlings.”

In a recent conversation with Collider, Harington expressed that a prequel series such as “House of the Dragon” feels like a more organic continuation of the “Thrones” saga compared to any potential spin-off or follow-up series.

“He believes that creating a prequel instead of a sequel makes more sense. After all, ‘Better Call Saul’ and ‘House of the Dragon’ were also prequels. Sequels can present numerous challenges, such as dealing with an aging cast and bringing back characters. Therefore, it’s not shocking that a prequel might be a smoother approach.”

Harington next returns to HBO for the new season of “Industry.”
