Kirsten Dunst to Star in Flora Birnbaum’s Debut Feature ‘Self Help,’ Produced by Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell; MK2 Films Boards Sales

Kirsten Dunst is slated to appear in Flora Birnbaum’s first full-length film, “Self Help,” which is being developed by Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell under Gloria Sanchez Productions. This production company has previously worked on projects like “Booksmart,” “May December,” and “Will & Harper.

In the story, Dunst takes on the role of Sage, a woman who feels adrift in both Los Angeles and her own life. A fateful encounter with a hit-and-run accident thrusts her into a vast conspiracy that is far beyond her experience or resources. As L.A. erupts in chaos and tensions rise, she steps up as an amateur detective, finding herself trapped between a questionable real estate magnate and a suspicious aspiring actor. Birnbaum, a 2017 Sundance New Voices Fellow, has recently worked as a writer and co-executive producer for Hulu’s “Tell Me Lies.” She has also contributed to the writing teams of FX’s “American Crime Story: Impeachment” and Netflix’s “Russian Doll,” which led to two WGA award nominations for her. Additionally, Birnbaum is responsible for creating the SXSW digital series titled “Cleansed.
