As a seasoned cinephile with decades of film-watching under my belt, I am always on the lookout for fresh and compelling additions to the vast cinematic universe. Having grown up with the original “Planet of the Apes” films from the 1960s and ’70s, I was both intrigued and excited to learn that the latest installment, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” is coming to Hulu next month.
The new story about apes in the Planet of the Apes movie series will be streaming on Hulu starting next month.
The “Planet of the Apes: Kingdom,” directed by Wes Ball, will become available on Hulu in the U.S. starting August 2. This is the fourth installment in the rebooted “Apes” series from 20th Century Studios and takes place many years later, after Caesar’s rule.
In the film “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” apes rule peacefully at the top of the food chain, while humans live in concealment. With the emergence of a cruel new ape ruler, a young ape named Noa embarks on a perilous quest that challenges his understanding of the past and forces him to make decisions affecting the futures of both apes and humans. The ensemble of this movie comprises Owen Teague, Kevin Durand, Freya Allen, William H. Macy, and Peter Macon.
In his assessment, film critic Owen Gleiberman from EbMaster appreciated the movie for capturing the essence of “Planet of the Apes” in a new release. According to him, he was happily immersed in the film’s traditional and less flashy storytelling style.
As I sat in the cinema, watching the latest addition to Disney and 20th Century’s “Planet of the Apes” series unfold on the big screen, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement. And boy, was it worth it! With an impressive domestic box office revenue of $170.7 million and a total worldwide take of $396 million just weeks after its May 10 release, this movie left no stone unturned. The production team truly outdid themselves with an estimated budget of $160 million. It’s safe to say that this film was not only a financial success but a critical one as well.
Hulu now offers the opportunity to watch all nine movies in the Planet of the Apes series: “Planet of the Apes” (1968), “Beneath the Planet of the Apes” (1970), “Escape from the Planet of the Apes” (1971), “Conquest of the Planet of the Apes” (1972), “Battle for the Planet of the Apes” (1973), “Planet of the Apes” (2001), “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” (2011), “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” (2014), and “War for the Planet of the Apes” (2017).
