Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 just got even better to me after watching this video showing NPCs scavenging and a dev explaining “nobles might ignore cheap items, but beggars will pick them up”

In a natural, easy-to-understand manner, The upcoming game Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is shaping up to be one of the most engaging RPGs out there due to a developer’s disclosure that Non-Player Characters (NPCs) in the game will interact realistically, such as picking up items left on the ground based on their social standing.

One user created a time-lapse following the incident where they dropped approximately 300,000 gold’s value in items within a town. As you watch the video, it becomes apparent that non-player characters (NPCs) are drawn to the heap and selectively picking up items from it. However, what prompts them to choose the items they do?

Patrik Papšo, a programmer and open-world scripter at Warhorse Studios, jokes, “Ah, I created that NPC behavior! They select objects to interact with based on an item’s value and their social standing. That’s why the nobles might overlook inexpensive items, but beggars will pick them up instead.

In essence, if you leave some common bread near a noble, they usually won’t touch it because they don’t want their social standing to appear diminished by consuming street food. On the other hand, if you offer them an expensive necklace, there’s a higher chance they’ll try to keep it, as even the wealthy appreciate a good deal.

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, it’s intriguing to consider this new behavioral feature. Previous games have had similar systems, but the way it’s being integrated here is quite captivating. For instance, in Oblivion and Skyrim, NPCs will go hunting for food when they’re hungry – you might even see wolves or foxes pursuing rabbits, and humans searching for bread or alcohol if they fancy it. So, I can’t wait to experiment by leaving some gems near a thief in my next gameplay session!

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, there are additional secret mechanisms beyond what’s immediately apparent. Some bonuses and advantages can be earned exclusively through immersive role-playing, such as by donning appropriate attire or dedicating extensive effort to a specific skill.
