As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that Yorgos Lanthimos’s latest offbeat masterpiece, “Kinds of Kindness,” is coming to our living rooms soon! Mark your calendars for August 27th, when you can stream it on platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV+. For those who prefer physical copies, the Blu-ray/DVD will be available from October 8th. Can’t wait to rewatch this intriguing film over and over again!

The movie that debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in May is titled a trio of progressively unconventional narratives, revolving around “a man yearning for freedom, a police officer struggling with his wife’s altered personality after a sea disappearance, and a woman on a quest to find someone extraordinary,” as suggested by its synopsis. The high-profile ensemble cast features Emma Stone, who previously worked with the director in the Academy Award-nominated “Poor Things,” alongside Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Mamoudou Athie, Joe Alwyn, and Hunter Schafer. Each actor portrays distinct characters in each segment of the story, with Yorgos Stefanakos’ character RMF being present throughout all three sections.

In the digital and physical versions of the release, you’ll find extra material such as a segment called “Takes All Kinds: The Vision of Kinds of Kindness,” where cast members and production team share an exclusive peek at the movie’s costume design, cinematography, music, and even some scenes that didn’t make it to the final cut.

As a movie lover, I attended the premiere of this film at a festival and was met with a mixed response from critics. Some found it too bizarre, even for a director like Lanthimos, renowned for his eccentric narratives. However, for me, the strangeness was captivating. Peter DeBruge, a respected film critic, echoed my feelings in his review, stating that Lanthimos “keeps you on edge for almost three hours with a biting satire of power,” creating a rhythm that sets him apart from other filmmakers. The tension wasn’t built through suspense, but rather surprise, which made the movie a unique experience.

Purchase “Kinds of Kindness” on digital platforms starting Aug. 27 and Blu-ray/DVD on Oct. 8.
