Kim Kardashian On Never Running Out Of Reality TV Content: ‘And Then My Stepdad Will Turn Into A Woman, And I’m Like, We’re Good’

By now, it’s clear the Kardashian family reigns supreme in the world of reality TV. They’ve dominated the genre for years, moving from twenty seasons of Keeping Up with the Kardashians to seven – and still counting – of The Kardashians, which you can stream on Hulu. Even with some past concerns, Kim Kardashian has said her family will always have plenty of material for reality television, and she’s also ventured into scripted acting roles.

Before the release of Hulu’s All’s Fair (which received negative reviews), Kim Kardashian and Sarah Paulson were guests on The Graham Norton Show. They discussed how the Kardashian family first became famous on reality TV. Kim explained it wasn’t primarily due to her father’s involvement in the O.J. Simpson trial – famously portrayed on TV with David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian. Instead, she credited her stepfather at the time, Bruce Jenner, with playing a significant role.

He was frequently on reality TV and very visible in the public eye. Being around Paris Hilton and involved in that lifestyle, combined with the opportunity to film a pilot, unexpectedly launched us into a twenty-year-long show. A different show they were developing for E! fell through, and they asked us to start filming immediately, essentially throwing us into the deep end.

Kim Kardashian revealed that the current season of The Kardashians is actually their 37th season making reality TV, if you include the twenty seasons they did on E!, ten seasons of various spinoff shows, and now the series on Hulu. Although it’s unclear if she’ll have a long career in scripted acting, even referencing her divorces for her role in All’s Fair, the show’s rocky start likely won’t affect The Kardashians’ viewership.

During a talk show appearance, Kim Kardashian was asked by Sarah Paulson if she and her family ever staged scenes for the cameras. Kim responded by referencing the time her stepfather, Bruce Jenner, came out as Caitlyn Jenner, saying:

We never ran out of things to film! Towards the end of each season, we’d worry that we’d already captured all the most interesting moments. We’d think, ‘What exciting events could possibly happen now?’ Then something completely unexpected would occur – like my stepdad transforming into a woman – and we’d realize we had plenty of material for at least two more seasons!

It’s not surprising Caitlyn Jenner came up when Kim Kardashian talked about how long the family’s show has lasted. Soon after, an episode of The Kardashians featuring Jenner aired on Hulu, where Kendall and Kylie discussed their parents’ relationship. Clearly, the family has plenty more stories to tell and will likely continue their reality TV show for many seasons to come – well beyond their current 37th season.

You can catch the latest adventures with Kim and her family on new episodes of The Kardashians, which premiere on Thursdays on Hulu. And if you’re interested in the new series All’s Fair – whether you’ve already watched it or heard about the mixed reviews – new episodes are streaming on Tuesdays, also on Hulu.
