Kickstarter game placed on “indefinite pause” after raising $340k

As an enthusiastic supporter, I’m disheartened to share that the game, which garnered backing from over 5,000 generous individuals on Kickstarter and managed to surpass $300,000 in funding, has been unfortunately cancelled. The developer has confirmed this news.

Developed by Studio Camelia, Alzara Radiant Echoes is described as a “3D turn-based RPG inspired by Japanese classics” on the game’s Steam page, which, as of June 21, 2025, still lists Alzara as “coming soon.”

On Alzara’s Kickstarter post, the developer regrettably shared the news that Studio Camelia has shut down permanently as of April 28, 2025. In the section discussing potential future development, Camelia mentioned that legal proceedings related to the liquidation are still underway.

Camelia’s Kickstarter campaign for Alzara raised €294,428 ($339,000 USD) from 5,089 backers.

The message stated that “Radiant Echoes” has been put on an indefinite hold. However, there’s a small possibility that another party could eventually emerge to pick up where we left off with the project.

The game is still listed as “coming soon” on its Steam page.

The final straw

Camelia clarified that, even though team members had invested their personal savings and funds raised through Kickstarter, they still required additional resources to bring the game to completion, hence the necessity of seeking an investment partner.

After presenting a demo of Radiant Echoes at various gaming events and having in-depth talks with possible investors, but not receiving any funding, Camelia admitted that they “clung on for as long as feasible.

On Kickstarter, refunds for unsuccessful projects aren’t given out because this platform functions as a platform for creative projects, rather than a traditional store. As stated in their FAQ, when you contribute to a project, you are essentially helping a creator bring their innovative ideas to life.

In cases like these, it’s up to the project originators whether they offer refunds or not. However, please note that neither the studio nor Kickstarter can process a refund for your project contribution, and we deeply regret this inconvenience.
