Kevin Feige Explains Why Marvel Spoiled Dafne Keen’s X-23 Return in Final ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Trailer

As a huge fan of both Deadpool and Wolverine, I am beyond excited for the upcoming threequel, “Deadpool & Wolverine.” The latest trailer has given us a pleasant surprise – the return of Dafne Keen’s X-23 from “Logan.”

In my experience as a moviegoer, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is marketed as an entertaining extravaganza filled with surprise appearances of fan-favorite mutants and other cherished Marvel characters.

In most cases, Marvel has kept quiet about these cameos. However, they revealed a hidden surprise in the last trailer for the third installment of their superhero series: Dafne Keen reprising her role as X-23 from the 2017 film “Logan.”

Based on what Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, shared, there were several explanations given for why Marvel chose to reveal the X-23 secret a week prior to the “Deadpool and Wolverine” movie’s premiere.

“Dafne expressed her strong desire to attend the film premiere, but we had to disappoint her as her presence could potentially ruin the surprise for others since the movie hadn’t been released yet,” Feige explained to EbMaster at the “Deadpool & Wolverine” red carpet event on Monday night in New York City.

Fortunately for Keen, Disney decided to reveal X-23 in the trailer as her character introduction hints at “the film’s emotional heart,” according to Feige. He also mentioned that Disney’s marketing team is skilled at determining the right moment to advance and retreat in their promotions.

In the end, Marvel decided it was beneficial to have X-23 featured, as Feige remarked, “The trailer’s finale was impressive,” and this allowed Dafne to attend the film’s premiere.

“Hugh Jackman is back as the wild mutant, Wolverine, in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ following his departure in ‘Logan.’ According to Ryan Reynolds, who once again puts on the red suit of Deadpool, their goal for this film is to bring enjoyment and create a fulfilling experience for audiences.”

“What I’m most proud of in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is the careful consideration we put into each frame. We invested a great deal of time, effort, and attention to detail in every moment, and it really paid off.”

Jackman expressed that we had both set very high standards for the movie. Consequently, there was a risk involved since we aimed to surpass those expectations, as these characters hold significant value in our lives and our friendship is precious to me. Fortunately, it has turned out better than I could have imagined.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” debuts in theaters Friday.
